In times of personal growth, we walk through life with a certain vulnerability and heightened sense of awareness. When we stretch in our craft or embrace new challenges, we make ourselves available for new channels of creative thought.
The stage, that magical place where life's stories are played out, to our sadness and amusement, has been an amazing venue for my own spiritual and professional growth. In live performance, an actor's success depends upon his ability to live truthfully under imaginary circumstances. He learns to be aware in every moment, for at any time, anything can happen and anything will.
In As You Like It, William Shakespeare wrote, "All the world's a stage and all the men and women merely players." There is a step onto the world's stage that each of us prays we have the courage to take. When we take that step we make ourselves available to Spirit's wisdom. We become conduits for life changing concepts and symbolic impressions of our future. And we feel most alive!

Amazing! A Student's Psychic Confirmation
|
In a psychic class I taught in March at Kapiolani Community College, I coached a student named Donna through an exercise in clairvoyance. I told her to close her eyes, draw a postcard from a stack I'd laid out on the table, and hold it up a few inches from her forehead. I said, "Donna, despite the fact that your eyes are closed, I want you to do your best to look through your eyelids at the card you're holding. What do you see?"
"My eyes are closed!" she cried. "All I see is black! Can't I look at the card?"
"No, you can't," I said, laughing. "The answer you're seeking isn't literally on the card anyway. It's on the screen of your eyelids. The postcard is only serving to facilitate your psychic vision. Tell me what you see on the back of your eyelids."
Donna works for a major retail firm. On her first day of class she told me she signed up to get insights on how to advance in her career. Whenever I asked her to interpret a tarot card or one of her gut feelings, she relayed her answers in terms of her career desires. Donna is a woman on a mission.
After some silence from Donna, I said, "Donna, this exercise will feel somewhat strange. It requires stretching with your imagination. I want you to interpret the impressions of light and shadow- vague as they may be- that are projected on your inner screen."
The other students and I waited for Donna to tell us what she was seeing. After about half a minute, all she could say was, "Uh..."
I called out to her. "Donna?"
"It doesn't look like anything."
"I know it doesn't. But I'm going to ask you to come to an answer anyway, even if you feel you have no basis for saying so, okay? This is a hurdle you have to pass. I'm going to force you to declare something of it. And at the risk of sounding like an exasperated school teacher..."
"I see a white dot, like a light at the end of a tunnel."
"Thank you. That's good." If my psychic class weren't fun and safe I wouldn't get away with this strong-arm tactic. I've learned that sometimes a little pressure does the trick! "That's very good," I continued. "Now, go through the tunnel and come out the other side. Where are you?"
"I'm on a path. And up ahead, the path I'm on splits into three paths."
"Okay, great! Now you have something. You don't know it yet, but you have something solid. Can you see where any of the paths go?"
"No, not really. But I know I have three choices."
"Okay. So your psychic self is pointing to where you have three choices in your future. Look out for this, because every psychic vision you have provides an answer toward your future success."
Two weeks later, Donna emailed me: "Derek, I wanted to thank you for the insight presented in the March classes I attended at Kapiolani Community College. It made me more aware of signs and symbols around me. It was amazing that there were so many coincidences and parallels while doing those exercises.
In one of the classes, you asked us to pick a post card and to hold it close to our eyes. We had to discuss what images we saw and I indicated that at first I thought I saw a tunnel with light within. Then I saw a pathway that divided into three directions.
I was going through my mail today and opened an envelope containing one of my magazine subscriptions to "HR Magazine", the April 2007 issue. What a surprise when I looked at the cover of the magazine!"
HR is a trade publication for people in Human Resources. April's issue was titled Peak Performances. On it, a career woman with a briefcase is pictured on a path which splits into three directions. The bi-line read "Women in HR prove there's more than one path to the top." The article inside featured a bold headline which read, "Tough choices and determination help women ascend to the top of the HR game." It outlined clear reasons why women haven't gained ground in achieving a greater share of executive-level HR positions and what they need to do to get them.
