An article from Rocky Mountain News, reports that Denver has fared far better than most cities according to the S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Indices released on Tuesday.  While home values in the Denver area slid 5.4% for the year ending in September, the 20 cities tracked in the indices dropped 17.4% on average.  "Sure the markets are off," said Jack O'Connor, principal of the Prestige Real Estate Group in Denver.  "But Denver is the third-least affect market by the downturn, after Charlotte and Dallas.  I think that Case-Shiller is absolutely positive for Denver, but it doesn't even take into consideration our falling inventory."

          Denver Unveils Foreclosure Plan
 
An article from The Denver Business Journal, reports that the Denver Office of Economic Development (OED) recently released a draft of a foreclosure action plan.  It involves using $6.1 million in federal funds to purchase and redevelop foreclosed homes in Denver.  On Dec. 1, a final plan will be submitted to HUD.  Three Denver neighborhoods would initially be targeted:  Green Valley Ranch, Montbello and Westwood.  Other areas of consideration include: West Colfax, Villa Park, Barnum, Mar Lee and Athmar Park areas of southwest Denver.  To view a draft of the plan, visit www.milehigh.com and look under "News & Data."

Real Estate Outlook: Housing in Recovery
 
An article from Realty Times, reports that despite the recent economic headlines, the real estate sector is experiencing some positive news.  Last week, new mortgage applications rose 12% and mortgage rates dropped a quarter of a percentage point.  Pending home sales were up from year-earlier levels for the second straight month - up 1.6% from September 2007.  Pending home sales in western states were up 3.7% for the month - 39.7% higher than they were at the same time in 2007.  Lawrence Yun, chief economist for the National Association of Realtors doesn't expect the housing market to recover overnight.  However, believes there will be a "slow, steady, multi-year upward trend."  Sales are already up significantly in major markets in many parts of the U.S., such as Phoenix and Minnesota.  It's important to remember that the stock market is NOT the housing market.
