The YLS Nominating Committee is now accepting nominations for the 2011-2012 YLS Steering Committee. Members interested in getting more involved with YLS in a leadership capacity may nominate themselves or another YLS member to serve. For a description of roles and responsibilities for YLS Steering Committee members, please click here.
In order to be considered for serving in a leadership role with YLS, members must submit their name or the name of the nominee, contact information and a brief statement of interest. We will accept nominees through early February and nominations can be submitted by email to Whitney Sousa at wsousa@uway.org or fax to (803) 748-7284.

Train to Become a Future

Blueprint for Leadership is United Way of the Midland's comprehensive nonprofit board leadership training program. Participants experience a challenging, eight-week curriculum that prepares them to assume volunteer leadership positions in the community. The Blueprint for Leadership program offers class training and practical experience to help participants develop leadership skills, nonprofit governance experience and knowledge of the community. The course meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month beginning February 10 and ending with graduation in June.

A group of YLS volunteers completely transformed the Family Shelter's multi-purpose room in less than 24 hours! YLS members and United Way staff teamed up with Brandon McIver, technical director at Trustus Theater, to design a mural to wrap around the Family Shelter's multi-purpose room. See below for pictures of before and after.

Given the wide breadth of public policy involvement, United Way of the Midlands is reconvening its Public Policy Subcommittee to develop and guide United Way of the Midlands' policy activities. Thank you to Emily Brady, Chernoff Newman and YLS Co-Chair, and Susie Shannon, McNair Law Firm, for agreeing to serve as YLS representatives on this committee.
