Take advantage of this opportunity to help YLS brighten the lives of women in our community!

Drop off contributions at United Way any time during normal business hours. We are located at 1800 Main Street Columbia, SC 29201. If you are making a monetary donation, checks should be made payable to United Way of the Midlands. There are other ways to get involved too!

YLS had a great turn-out for the first social event of 2009!

YLS members and non-members were all invited to a wine tasting at Solstice Kitchen and Wine Bar at the end of January. About 40 people showed up to enjoy exquisite wines and some even stayed for dinner to take advantage of three-course dinner specials. Read more.

United Way and the Cooperative Ministry will do your taxes for FREE!
Through a United Way grant, the Cooperative Ministry has taken over the Volunteer Income Tax Preparation program United Way piloted last year. In 2008, United Way of the Midlands managed the Volunteer Tax Assistance (VITA) program at sites hosted by community partners and returned almost $1 million to the Midlands community. In conjunction with this program, there are currently a series of financial education classes that are FREE and open to the public. Learn more.

Learning with Leaders: Feb. 2009
On February 3, Abacus Planning Group President, Cheryl Holland shared valuable advice with YLS members and guests at the AT&T conference room. She touched on various subjects from 401K investments to planning for children's education. Read more.

The next professional development event will be in June and will feature a panel of some of the Midlands most successful business people who will share tips on how to market yourself to advance in your current job or to find a new job.  Go to www.ylsmidlands.org or watch future e-mails for more information.
What is Cocktails and Conversations?
This is an exclusive event hosted by United Way of the Midlands Young Leaders Society and Tocqueville Society open to YLS members only. This annual event is held each spring to bring together leaders in the Midlands community. It is a great opportunity for young leaders to get to get to know some of the most established leaders in our community. This year, Mr. Ed Sellers, CEO of BlueCross BlueShield will be the featured guest speaker.

Be on the look out for future communications about the details of this event as that information becomes available. You won't want to miss this great opportunity!
