Greetings!
I'm saying "Yahoo!" but not because the kids are back in school. Fall is my favorite time of year. Days are cooling down (I am NOT a lover of the heat - unless I'm at the beach, and that happens about once a year). So this weather just feels GOOD! I'm ready to dig stuff up, divide & rearrange, and toss some stuff that just never really looked good all summer. How 'bout you?

Fall is a wonderful time to get some serious gardening in (especially for me - as I have more free time now than in May & June)  Trees, shrubs, and perennials develop ROOTS now through late fall. The soil is warm and rain is more abundant.  The roots grow like crazy right now! In fact, the roots will continue to grow until the ground freezes. The air is cooler, so the plants don't wilt done as quickly. AND we have a big sale right now!! All in all, IT'S A GREAT TIME TO PLANT!!.

Fall is also great cooking weather. Jen's been canning up a storm. Kirsten brought in homemade CornCurry soup for lunch, and Robin's talking beef stew. Me, I just want corn on the cob & tomato sandwiches for another week or so.  But soon I'll make up a batch or two of corn chowder, maybe some tomato sauce, and some ratatouille for the freezer. Joe's been trying to pickle some hot peppers, and everyone wants homemade apple pie. The best part is that we'll continue to have all these yummy veggies until a frost!!  Then there's Applesbroccoli & cauliflower, brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes, winter squash!!! Oh so many good recipes to try this fall. Be sure to check out some of the magazines that we carry for new recipes. I personally LOVE Eating Well  magazine !! Check it out next time you're in. We also are carrying the Niantic Community Church cookbook. Only $15 and over 600 recipes!
