Best Value Colleges of 2011
Are you wondering which colleges or universities offer the best value for money in 2011? Then the link below may provide you with some much needed answers, as it compares fees across various colleges and universities. The list takes into account a school's academic ranking and the net cost of attendance by a student. The higher the academic program and lower the cost of tuition, the more lucrative is the prospect.

Education Stops Coming Between Women and Marriage
According to a report from the Pew Research Center, getting a college education no longer hurts the chances a woman will get married before her 40th birthday. White women born starting in the early 1970s who earn college degrees are just as likely to marry as those who don't seek higher education, a turnaround from previous years, researchers found. The decline of the "marriage gap" in part stems from a change in marriage patterns, including an increase in the typical age for marriage.

Job Preparation Emphasized
A new report released by Harvard University calls for high schools to boost efforts to improve vocational training programs, suggesting that attending a traditional four-year college may not be the best choice for all students. The study, "Pathways to Prosperity," states that the current system of education is not adequately preparing students for the real world, said project director William C. Symonds, The Harvard Crimson reported.
"The 'one-size-fits-all' model just doesn't work for everybody," Symonds said. "There's a variety of pathways to success."

Tax Break for Breast-Feeding
An announcement by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has stated that pre-tax flexible spending accounts may be used to purchase breast pumps and related lactation supplies.  Thus, breast-feeding devices, which are regulated by the FDA as medical equipment, will now join items such as crutches and hearing aids which already benefit from this tax break.

Do You Really Think Pay Equity Is Just a Matter of Career Choice?  Think Again.

Although female medical students comprise approximately 50% of medical school graduates, newly trained female doctors in the United States make significantly less--nearly $17,000 less--than their male counterparts.  According to a new study published in this month's issue of Health Affairs, this unexplained pay disparity has been widening since 1999, rising from a difference of $3,600 in 1999 to $16,819 in 2008.

Maternal Employment Linked to Children's BMI

Childhood obesity in the United States has more than tripled in the past three decades, and prior research has linked maternal employment to children's body mass index (BMI), a measure of their weight-for-height. A new study in the January/February issue of the journal Child Development has found that children's BMI rose the more years their mothers worked over their children's lifetimes.

Unexpected Benefits of Osteoporosis Treatment with Bisphosphonates

People taking bisphosphonates as an osteoporosis treatment are not only surviving well, better than people without osteoporosis, they appear to be gaining an extra five years of life according to Australian clinical researchers. In a group of women with osteoporotic fractures over the age of 75, there is an expectation that 50% will die over a period of five years. Among women in that age group who took bisphosphonates, the death rate dropped to 10%.

Women are Less Prepared for Retirement than Men

Women save 40% less than men do for retirement, according to a LIMRA study, which is especially distressing since women often live longer than men do, experts say. Younger women are doing better than their more senior counterparts are, but all women are less likely to feel knowledgeable about finances.

Get Out and Wiki!

Less than 15% of the contributors to online encyclopedia Wikipedia are women, leading to a gender disparity in its entries. Experts say men are more eager to share their knowledge and opinions, both online and in the workplace. The site is aiming to boost its women contributors to 25% by 2015.
