Set a New Year's Resolution to VOLUNTEER!
1. We need Family Mentors
-serving on the Family Services committee, you will be assigned to a newly selected partner family to mentor and work with them as they go through the home pre-purchasing process.
 
If you are interested, please attend the next Family Services Committee meeting on THURSDAY, JANUARY 14 @ 5:45PM  at the Charleston Habitat office building located at 731 Meeting Street

2. Build the Hudson Family Home in Downtown Charleston!
  • We need volunteers on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

3. Serve on the Hospitality Team
-We need volunteers who are willing to make or purchase breakfast or lunch for volunteers on our construction sites. Be there to help sign everyone in, greet volunteers as they arrive, and provide snacks, drinks, and/or a meal to replinish their energy while building! People on the hospitality team are recommended to pick one day a month to host a build day.

 4. Be an Office Angel 
-We need one or two people to volunteer by helping with data entry, filing, and receptionist duties once a week on a Tuesday and/or Wednesday.

#5. In the United States, the issue is affordability.
Severe rent burden, not severely inadequate housing, is the only priority housing problem for most households with worst case needs (91 percent). While low-income renters make up the largest share of severely burdened households, a rising number of middle-income homeowners also face cost pressures. Between 2001 and 2006, the number of severely burdened renters in the bottom income quartile increased by 1.2 million, while the number of severely burdened homeowners in the two middle-income quartiles ballooned by 1.4 million - Department of Housing and Urban Development, 2003; Joint Center for Housing Studies, 2008
