In March 2008, Charleston Habitat completed a home on North Nassau Street with the Nelson family. When you drive over the Ravenel Bridge, headed toward downtown, and you take the Meeting Street exit, you can see the completed home immediately to your right as you come down the ramp!
The City of Charleston has graciously donated two pieces of property where we will soon join with volunteers and sponsors to build a simple, decent, and affordable home for two more families!
1. Stay tuned for start dates and partner family bios
3. Click here to see a map of the future build site location.
4. The first home we build on N. Nassau was the first Energy Star rated home built by Charleston Habitat for Humanity. Now, we are building EarthCraft certified homes, and the next home we build on N. Nassau will have SOLAR THERMAL panelsdonated by ECOBILT!!!

World Habitat Day - October 5, 2009 |
|
The United Nationals has declared the first Monday in October to be "World Habitat Day" in recognition of the need for simple and decent shelter for people in the United States and around the world.
Here's a note from Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International:
"Like so many kids, my curiosity, courage, and character all started at home. I grew up in a simple house in North Carolina. And while it didn't have air conditioning or television - our home gave my four siblings and me what mattered: a stable foundation, shelter, and a dining room filled with long meals and lively debate. It's clear that who we become later all starts at home, and yet millions of children around the world still don't have a safe, decent place to live. That's why World Habitat Day - this Monday Oct. 5 - is so important. On World Habitat Day we have the responsibility to bring attention to the worldwide need for decent and affordable housing."
These are some common housing issues that families all over the world, even in Charleston, are facing:

Please help us raise awareness and support the need for decent and affordable housing!
Things you can do for World Habitat Day:
1. Forward this email to your friends and help spread the word!
2. Wear a tool belt or nail apron to work
3. During October, have a representative from Habitat come and speak at your workplace, classroom, church, or group.
4. Host a fundraiser to support a project Habitat is working on locally or internationally 5. View Habitat's Photo Petition - "It All Starts at Home"
