  • Greetings!

It is a wonderful time for reflexology.

And the future holds even more promise. The change of reflexology from a "fringe practice" to a mainstream approach is becoming a daily event. The stories in this newsletter speak of the many applications of reflexology just now beginning to surface.

    Kids with Cancer

    Integrative Therapies Program Uses Reflexology

I am employed at New York Presbyterian Hospital in NYC in the Pediatric Oncology Department as part of the Integrative Therapies Program.

I give reflexology to the children who are under going treatment. They love it. It helps them get through so many of their side effects.

As someone who is licensed and certified in so many modalities, I have to say that reflexology is by far the most useful with the kids. It's less invasive and it feels so good to them. It can help alleviate their nausea and anxiety almost instantly.

The Integrative Group is writing a handbook for children with cancer. It will include descriptions on how the parents can help their children at home with their side effects. Some of these therapies include reflexology, acupuncture, nutrition, aromatherapy, yoga therapy, massage, etc.

All the proceeds of the book sales will go to the Integrative Therapies program which is soley funded by philanthropy.

Thanks Diane and your wonderful group. We will let people know when the book is released. Editors

Reflexology has been accepted as a part of Primary Medical Care in a federally funded HIV/AIDS Grant

From April 2005 through to the present, the Northeast Holistic Center Belleville NJ has been assisting the HIV/AIDS Community in the Newark Eligible Metropolitan Area under the Ryan White Title I Federal Grant with Reflexology and other natural therapies. As of March 2006, Reflexology has been funded as a part of Primary Medical Care to assist with ?Treatment Adherence? for AIDS/HIV communities? health care regime.

A marked positive change and/or stabilization (to undetectable) in their CD4 count and viral load was attained in 90% of the cases last year.

Each client was responsible to attended five (5) consecutive weeks of Natural Therapy sessions ? one per week. Reflexology was one of the standard treatments received ? repeated cycles were allowed after a short hiatus.

Along with the specific goal of assisting in stress reduction and pain management to improve the patient?s immune function; many other disorders were addressed with great success.

Reflexology home care protocols were taught to about 75% of the patients to assist them in home care follow-through. There was great success in associated neuropathy, knee problems, peripheral circulation problems and reduction of overall stress.
