Greetings!
Once again, urban renewal is under attack at the State Capitol! While legislation has yet to be introduced, there are still things you can do now to help demonstrate the significant benefit this financing tool plays in revitalizing key areas and supporting small business. Please see the steps below to learn how you can support urban renewal in Colorado!
We would like to extend congrats to Colorado Municipal League executive director and long-time DCI supporter, Sam Mamet, who recently received the Donald C. Stone Distinguished Practitioner Award, which recognizes outstanding accomplishments in the practice of intergovernmental relations and administration, from the Section on Intergovernmental Administration and Management of the American Society for Public Administration.
Cheers!

4 Ways You Can Help Preserve Urban Renewal in Colorado!
|
DCI is urging urban renewal authorities and supporters to take steps to tell the positive stories of urban renewal! With so much inaccurate information out there, it is important for us to present an accurate picture of the positive impacts of urban renewal. Please take a few minutes to help us preserve this very important community revitalization financing tool! 1. Write or call local legislators. Download some talking points for drafting letters or shaping conversation. 2. Complete the statewide URA Survey. This is the time to promptly and accurately share your information! DCI is again partnering with Ricker-Cunningham to collect and share the Urban Renewal Impact Report. Without your input, we cannot represent the work you have done accurately. Complete URA Survey now! 3. Send DCI your case studies. DCI has recently contacted all urban renewal authorities to request that you share your testimonials from small business and property owners and case studies of quality projects that could not have been completed without TIF. Click here to submit some brief information for a case study!4. Educate your community:
- Attend DCI's monthly Development & Improvement District (DID) Forums.
- Create annual reports and brochures highlighting your work.
- Hold regular presentations and communications with community leaders including your local governments, and other districts.
- Download the DIDs brochure to understand what else you can do today!

Know Your Colorado Resources!
Over the next few months, DCI will be featuring a short profile on various Colorado partner organizations and agencies that can help support you in your community revitalization work.
Special districts, as units of local government, fill a vital role in providing fire and rescue services, water and wastewater treatment and delivery, parks and recreation amenities, hospitals; libraries and cemeteries, in many of the communities within Colorado. There are currently 1,891 such districts, of which 1,349 are members of the Special District Association.
The Special District Association of Colorado (SDA) was organized to provide better communication, research, legislative advocacy, administrative support and educational conferences for member districts. SDA exists to help special districts serve the public in the most efficient and economical manner possible. Member Districts are united to coordinate their interests and welfare through a cooperative effort and to help special district officials fulfill their duties and responsibilities.
SDA has become increasingly important as the membership has grown and the operation of special districts has become more complex. SDA is an effective lobbying and educational organization that strives to serve the needs of special districts.
Ann Terry, is a practicing attorney and the Executive Director for the Special District Association of Colorado, a membership organization with over 1200 members. Under Ms. Terry's direction, SDA does lobbying, membership training and policy development for special districts. There are over 1,800 special districts in Colorado, which provide government services on the local level in the areas of water and sanitation, fire/rescue and ambulance, parks and recreation, libraries and hospitals, water conservancy, weed control and metropolitan services.

Spotlight on...Castle Pines
| DCI Conducts Technical Assistance Assessment
The City of Castle Pines requested Downtown Colorado, Inc. (DCI) facilitate the development of a plan to balance a sense of place in a thriving community with economic prosperity and the ability to grow, without diminishing the quality of life and connection to community values that citizens have come to expect. The community requested a dialogue with stakeholder groups to examine potential courses of action to foster a broad, in-depth, community-driven process for short and long-term community and economic revitalization of the commercial centers to create a thriving environment for small, independent businesses and an attractive, long-term plan for sustaining larger anchor businesses.
As a recently incorporated city, the City of Castle Pines is evolving and has a great opportunity to continue to redevelop the community based on the existing image and character as well as incorporating the natural amenities along with the unique qualities that differentiate this community from the surrounding areas.
