Summer is Kindle Time
If you don't own a Kindle, summer is a great time to borrow one of the Athenaeum's and take it for a test drive. Our Kindles come with a variety of bestsellers and other works. Just ask at the Front Desk if you are interested in borrowing one.
If you own a Kindle, don't forget that you can borrow e-books via Listen Up! Vermont and Amazon. Books are loaned for a two week period and you'll get an email notifiying you shortly before your loan is going to expire.
For more information about borrowing e-books for a Kindle, visit our Audiobook/E-book page.
First Interactive Book Group Features Weird Novel
The Athenaeum's first interactive book discussion is up and running. Young adults (ages 12 and up) as well as adults can read a really “weird” novel (according to the author) this summer. We have copies of Brenna Yovanoff’s The Replacement available in the Childrens Library, and you can sign out a copy any time you want. Edward Scissorhands meets The Catcher in the Rye in this wildly imaginative and frighteningly beautiful horror novel about an unusual boy and his search for a place to belong.

Arts and Culture Series
Join us for a presentation and workshop by Rodney Reis on "Plein Air Painting - Materials of the Masters" on Wednesday, July 18 at 7 p.m.
The paintings of the great masters utilized a variety of materials that were made by hand and composed of ingredients that were found from all parts of the globe. The development and composition of the best materials used by today's oil painters has been handed down for generations.
The discussion will include a demonstration of pigments, mediums, palette/canvas, techniques and the use of these materials as a whole.
