New website - Hearwell Hearing Aid Solutions
Better hearing. Better service. Better pricing.

HEBBVILLE - Scott MacKay is following his dream by supporting his Hearwell clients on their journey to better hearing.
Since 1980, Scott has served tens of thousands of patients of all ages - mostly at Nova Scotia Hearing and Speech Centres. From 1990 - 2011, he was staff audiologist at the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. He saw many clients who were not satisfied with the service they received from their hearing aid provider. Many wore hearing aids, yet did not hear well. Often they thought they paid too much or generally were not satisfied.
This strengthened Scott's resolve to make a difference by opening his own home-based hearing aid business - delivering hearing solutions at affordable prices. Better hearing. Better service. Better pricing.
For fun we did some photos in the garden too. (LuckyDuck photography)
|
Scott MacKay's web design testimonial: "I recently had the fortune to find LuckyDuck web design on the internet as I was looking for someone to develop a website for me. From my first meeting with site developer Jodie Turner I knew I had made the correct choice. All work was timely, including Jodie actually taking the pictures that are on my website! I now proudly have what I consider to be an informational, professional website at a very affordable price. Thanks so much Jodie and Allan, and much continued success in all you do."

LUNENBURG - Lisa Nicholson is acting administrator at Seond Story while Tara Jaskowiak's on leave. Lisa's background is in human resources management, administration, organizational development and facilitation.
One of her passions is to reduce and, eventually, eliminate violence against women and girls in Lunenburg County.
The timing couldn't be better - Second Story is involved with a new three-year community project. It aims to develop a co-ordinated community response to violence against women and girls in the Lunenburg County area. Men and boys are affected by violence and are equal partners in the solution.
Girl Talk 2012
This free four-day camp program is offered through SSWC to girls 9-12 years old. The program aims to increase self-esteem and confidence in participants. To empower girls in a fun and safe environment where they are able to express their creativity, engage in active games, and voice their opinions on various issues. The program is generously supported by United Way Lunenburg County.

| | Jim Lindner & Warren McAuley bring new life to church |

Plaque detail

HALIFAX - The Sacred Places Award was presented for the first time, at the Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia Annual Dinner, at the Lord Nelson Hotel on Saturday, May 12, 2012. It was presented to Jim Lindner, an award-winning Audio Visual archivist, for St. Mark's Place in Middle LaHave, N.S. The citation was given by Gordon Callon who also provided a description of the restoration work done on the former church.
The award recognizes Mr. Lindner`s exceptional efforts and dedication in bringing St. Mark's Church building back from near collapse.
For 125 years, St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church has stood sentinel along the shores of Nova Scotia's beautiful LaHave River.
After sitting vacant four years, the building was purchased by Mr. Lindner early September 2009. He is passionate about preserving cultural heritage - which is precisely what he did during the next two years.

Journeyman builder Warren McAuley was called to the scene to repair a cornerboard, but the job grew . . . then grew some more. Finally, 10 months later, Jim and his fiancé were married in the beautifully restored landmark.
Jim Lindner praises Warren McAuley
"If not for Warren's honesty, diligence and expertise," applauds Mr. Lindner, "St. Mark's Place would not have happened. He made my hope and vision a reality. It is truly an honour to not only know, but to have worked with Warren."

NS Folk Art Festival - Sunday afternoon, August 5, 2012
| Over 50 folk artists from around the Province

Paul Bunyan & Babe, the Blue Ox
Garry Woodcock photo
|
LUNENBURG - This year's Folk Art Festival feature artist is Mae Workman.
Few women carve. Mae does 3-D figures as well as shallow relief. Close observation of the birds that come to her feeders and live in the nearby woods inspires her carvings. Owls are a favorite. Other animal favorites are teams of horses and oxen. She makes all the harnesses from leather, making sure the bits and yokes are accurate.
Among the pieces Mae plans on bringing to the 2012 Festival is a Noah's Ark. Hers has 142 pairs of animals, which may be a world record! She most often uses pine, but for the Ark she used wood from the catalpa tree.
Mae also carves people, often in comic poses. Her new piece Paul Bunyan and Babe, the Blue Ox combines her talents for carving and painting both animals and people. It was selected for the 2012 Folk Art Festival poster and will be the last piece to be auctioned on Sunday afternoon.
Door-prize winners are announced at 1pm & 2pm followed by the Auction. No pets please.
Festival location, as in past years, is the War Memorial Arena between Green & Victoria Streets. Parking is available.

LUNENBURG - In her description of work, Su Rogers notes:
"My work has long reflected my attachment to the fishing communities of the South Shore of Nova Scotia. For many years, this attachment was informed by feelings of longing, exile and nostalgia, prompted by many years of living away from my home province, an experience shared by many Nova Scotians."
