Welcome to our first e-news of the year!
For the second December in a row, we were surprised by - and grateful for - the activity at LuckyDuck. We're looking forward to working with our clients - our "old-timers" as well as "newbies" throughout 2008!
What a thrill it was to launch the brand new, official website for Nova Scotia's Sailing Ambassador - Bluenose II! Allan and I both have a soft spot in our hearts for the Original Bluenose, as well as her offspring. The last time he worked on her was as a Snyder's shipwright taking part in her re-fit.
Also last month, we launched a six page website for Bridgewater woodworker extraordinaire Bill Pyke. He designs and builds custom doors, windows, furniture, cabinetry and just about anything else that comes to mind.
And we launched an early, three-page start-up site for Womens Work Project. Why didn't we wait until the project was ready to launch a full site? Good question! Check out Lucky's Website Tips to learn why - and how to get around using an "under construction" banner!
Visit our updated website - don't forget to "refresh" when you click on the link (hit the F5 key as each page comes up to ensure you have the latest version).
Check out this month's moon-lit Nova Scotia Photos.
until next time, wishing you all the very best on this first day of the new year

New LuckyDuck website! |
Lucky launches the official Bluenose II website!
|
LUNENBURG - When Captain Wayne Walters, Director of Operations for Bluenose II called
LuckyDuck for a website, we gladly came on board!
It was a treat tracking down historical photos and working with Nova Scotia photographers Maurice Crosby and Sherman Hines - many thanks for their generosity to the project! Sherman provided us a set of spectacular banners. You'll see his and Maurice's photos throughout the site.
Interviewing Captain Wayne for his story was another plus - as were the photo shoots I did.

New LuckyDuck website - Bill Pyke |
Custom doors, windows, furniture, cabinetry, finishing . . .
|
BRIDGEWATER - Bill Pyke took on his first woodworking job in 1967.
By choosing the finer side of the trade, he can take the time to do the job, creating a fitting tribute to the look, versatility and strength of the design, the wood, and the project.
Bill's finishing expertise brings versatility to the project and the piece. Although he uses today's materials which better withstand the rigours of life, he can still deliver yesteryear's traditional, classical look.
Visit his website it includes the story From the Ground Up, the remarkable transformation of a-once dowdy, three-story building on Aberdeen Hill in Bridgewater.

Charles Lantz Cabinetry |
|
LUNENBURG - Charles Lantz Cabinetry was busy as ever in December.
Rather than impose on one of his clients in the midst of the Holiday Season, we took a month off from our CLC Feature. We're looking forward to presenting February's Fabulous kitchen!

LuckyDuck takes a walk under full moon |
FARMVILLE - It was a perfect night for a walk at NoRush Farm!
A clean blanket of snow sparkled in the light of the full moon and candles each of us carried. Our path was compliments of the farm's horses who enjoy being out of the barn whenever possible. As they were this evening - choosing to eat their supper out-of-doors in moderate temperatures. Their sudden appearances, then disappearances, added to the magic of this Solstice evening.
Many thanks to our most hospitable host Sibylle Bechtold who organized this enchanting event!
Our January photo collection was shot entirely hand held without the use of flash or tripod.
and see more of the evening's photos!

Lucky talks web design |
| Just say "No!" to Under Construction banners |
We've all muttered to ourselves when online - especially when on a new-to-us website that's difficult to navigate. Or doesn't deliver what it promises. There's a bookmark-limiting-move!
A sure way to make people cross is to welcome them to your site with an Under Construction banner and nothing else. Talk about a waste of time-and-effort!
At LuckyDuck, we don't launch Under Construction banners. Ever. But we acknowledge there is a time and place when something is appropriate.
Take for example, Bill Pyke, his yellow pages ad (with his on-line address) was published before his website. We didn't want any of Bill's future customers to key in his domain name and come up with "Server not Found."
Instead, we created him a one-page place holder in the style of his future website with text and project photos and assurances his new site would be launched shortly. And we invited visitors to email us if they'd like to be alerted when his site was launched.
Then there's the Womens Work Project. Although their website will be large, we didn't want to force Anna Davison to have to wait until it was launched later this year. Instead, we built a three-page mini-site with text and photos, explaining the project and giving visitors an opportunity to buy some WWP fundrasing jewellery, designed and made by Birdsall Worthington Pottery. Again, inviting visitors to email Anna if they'd like to be alerted when the full site was launched.
When it comes to Under Construction banners, there's Always a better way!

Held over for January: LuckyPals are 4 great women! |
| NOVA SCOTIA - What do Anna Davison, Jeanette Reynolds, Rosmarie Bradley and Sharon Rhyno have in common? They're hard-working, creative, gifted And generous with their time.
These women give of themselves to benefit women at home and abroad; retired greyhounds (and the people who adopt them) and children in need of hospital care.
How about a round of applause for these terrific gals - and all volunteers who give of themselves on behalf of others?!
