This month's lead story celebrates the launch of a brand new website for Katies Farm - Canada's first - and only - supplier of certified organic pet treats. As if that wasn't remarkable enough, Jude Major, the woman behind this venture, grows certified organic ingredients!
Speaking of which, visit our August website - check out this month's Nova Scotia Photos - it was a fun shoot. Also our updated LuckyPals - for the next four weeks it's home to A salute to Canadian heroes.

Simple re-design tips
| |
A website, to be effective, is home to change - in fact - welcomes the opportunity to say something, and do something, differently. Re-designing a website can be as big - or even bigger - a job as starting from scratch. |
|
|
| |
But website owners can make a real difference with simple changes. Each month, we're going to make a few suggestions based on actual sites we've seen. |
LuckyDuck says "the more the merrier!"
We like to make our sites accessible to as many people as possible. The other day we chanced upon a remarkable statement. According to RVA Market Research, 28% of Internet users are on dial-up!
That's a large percentage of end-users . . . and we'll do well to keep them in mind when designing our websites.
Keep your pages light and fast-loading with, when possible, small images, clean, error-free code and by avoiding complicated graphics. In this matter, Flash is not your friend - it will definitely keep your website out of the race.
Use javascript to provide functionality that you can't otherwise do. Keep in mind there are people who disable javascript for security reasons.
Chose with Care!
When it comes to finding a web designer, walk, don't run.
- First and foremost, it will serve you very well to work with someone with similar viewpoints and ideas, in whom you trust.
- Ask questions: What are their hours of operation? Problems and important updates don't pay attention to the 40-hour week!
- What's their turn-around time for posting a new document?
- How's their reliability and punctuality? Do they take pride in meeting deadlines?
- Do they keep current with the latest industry standards?
Hopefully this is the beginning of a happy long-term relationship - getting started on the right foot will help big time!
Contact us with a question and we'll respond right away - and we may feature your question in next month's e-news!

LUNENBURG - Black Duck Gallery & Gifts carries fine crafts, treasures and jewelry year round. Their gallery, open May-December, shows varied works by Nova Scotia artists and artisans.
The scenes we see every day around town and area are getting a make-over at the hands of local artists Ciel Duke & Lou Schellenberg.
The friends have exhibited widely and have come together for the Duck's latest show: Re-inventing Lunenburg. It will run until August 17.

| Farming in Nova Scotia |
FARMVILLE - This month's photo collection happened over two visits to NoRush Farm. Definitely a most pleasant way to spend a summer afternoon!
Life and learning at the farm is an interactive experience. Teachers come in all shapes and forms: they are two-or-four legged, they may have roots, leaves or blossoms. Above all, it is the wisdom of the equines that contributes to a powerful and fun learning experience.
