LuckyDuck presents LuckyPals!
some of the fine people we meet . . .
carpet of fall leaves Our new LuckyPals page started with a question: Why can't we say "Well Done!" to the people we meet?

As a former newspaper reporter, I know readers love people stories and people photos. And most of our website visitors are no different.

Each month we'll applaud someone new. We'll tell their stories and include contact information as well. As a convenience to our readers, our LuckyPals page will have a link to a pdf noting the contact information of all our "Pals" - past and present!

Salt of the Earth
Lucky's salute to Organic Entrepreneurs!
farmer sells eggs Every month, we'll be saying "Thank-you!" to the organic growers who enable us to bring good, healthy food to our tables. This month's standing ovation goes to Ann & Victor Naugler. Crossroads Farm, just outside Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, is where this hard working pair raise and produce fine organic food.

"We've been farming our whole lives,? she says.

?In 1991, a couple of German families were coming for milk. They asked if they might buy some organic produce and it snow balled.?

For the next few seasons, the Nauglers displayed their fresh produce on a picnic table. Shoppers put their money in a bottle. Sadie the Shelty dog did the honours as the family greeter . . .

Baywoods celebrates grand opening
Rosmarie Bradley: Helping Nature Heal's magic act
rosmarie bradley's on tv Over the past number of months I've had the pleasure of multi photo-shoots at Baywoods, the micro Acadian Forest/outdoor classroom in front of Mahone Bay's Bayview Community School. Me and my camera were on duty for our client Rosmarie Bradley of Helping Nature Heal.

She's the heart, soul and sweat behind the design, creation and completion of this remarkable project.

On October 23, LuckyDuck once again landed at Baywoods. This time to help celebrate the grand opening . . . nearly one year to the day that construction began.

There was lots of excitement - students, teachers, parents, guests - as well as cbc national morning news crew. Proper thing too! This project absolutely deserved that kind of acknowledgement.

The opportunity to be involved in such a dream-come-true project generated heart-felt gratitude and Rosmarie was quick to say "Thank-you!"

And now I'm taking advantage of my post at the keyboard to say "Thank-you Rosmarie for a job well done - definitely above-and-beyond the call of duty!

An Intelligent Choice with Robert Wagner
Virus and spyware nasties - some antidotes are free!
robert of intelligent choice I'd like to think that every computer linked to the Internet has an antivirus program installed, but I know it isn't so.

Most of us have heard about computer viruses, the malicious software that can appear unexpectedly on your computer in many different forms. Their effects range from mildly annoying to downright destructive.

Norton Antivirus is a good program. It will help protect your system ? and for greater service, Norton Internet Security includes a firewall.

But that's not the end of the story. You need to keep your virus definitions up to date. If you don't want to schedule yourself a regular check-in with your antivirus provider for updates, buy an anti-virus software that automatically updates daily.

If the problems persist, call your service technician ? it could be time to get your system checked.

Spyware solutions

Spyware can track your surfing behavior, then provide that information to commercial interests gathering data for marketing and advertising purposes.

Spyware can result in annoying pop-ups, aggravatingly slow performance and scary security threats. Spyware can harvest personal, sensitive information from your computer, then release it to people with criminal intentions.

Some free tools to help clean-up/protect your system from spyware are:

  • Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition which can be downloaded from www.download.com by using their search;
  • Spybot - Search & Destroy can also be found at www.download.com
  • Windows XP users can use Microsoft Windows Defender. Now out of ?beta? (testing phase) the final release can be accessed here

Only download programs from web sites you trust! If you're not sure whether to trust a program:

  • ask for help from a knowledgeable friend or local computer store
  • enter the name of the program into your favourite search engine, for example, www.google.ca, to see if anyone has reported that it contains spyware.

Site maps: Google, Yahoo & html site maps
hands hold red apple Site maps: Google site maps, Yahoo url lists and right-on-the-website html maps . . .

A variety of site maps serve our clients.

Google site maps and Yahoo url lists are behind-the-scenes helping search engines properly index websites.

An html site-map page introduces new visitors and helps new and return visitors quickly access all the site has to offer.

At LuckyDuck web design, we're pleased to offer these services to our clients.
