Economy Finally Back in Gear
Economy Up Turn
Greetings from your friend in Christ,

Government says GDP grew 3.5% in third quarter, ending a year-long string of declines and coming in better than forecasts.

According to CNNMoney.com, the U.S. economy grew at a 3.5% annual rate in the third quarter, ending a string of declines over four quarters that resulted in the most severe slide since the Great Depression.

The positive GDP report is one more sign that the economy has likely pulled out of the deep recession that started in December 2007.  Consumer spending rose at a 3.4% rate, the biggest increase in nearly three years. Spending by consumers accounts for more than two-thirds of the nation's economic activity.

Now, I understand that 'one quarter, a trend does not make.'  But we are all certainly hopeful that this indicator portends a brighter economic future for our nation and its citizens.

In particular, I think this is an affirmation for those students who have continued to persevere in their studies.  They are that much closer to their goal of degree completion than they would have been is they took a more tentative attitude because of the economics. Good for you!

The pendulum of life is always swinging.  You owe it to yourself to forge ahead, no matter how slowly.  Go at your own pace, but GO!  Be at the top of your game when conditions really turn for the better.  That will be the time when most students under the big bell curve of life will just be re-starting their studies.

In His Grip,

Rising Prices: College Tuition Increases

In the new knowledge-based economy, affordable postsecondary education is more critical than ever.

Over the past two decades, changes in state funding, tuition and financial aid have made postsecondary affordability a growing problem.

And while state and federal support for financial aid has increased over the past decade, it has not kept pace with tuition increases.
College tuitions have increased on average by 76 percent at public four-year institutions over the last decade. Private four-year institutions have seen an average increase of 62 percent.

While the average cost of college tuition has risen more than 65% over the past decade, median family income has risen by only 5 percent. (solutionsforourfuture.com)

As any father or mother who has a student in school can attest, the cost of going to school has been on the rise for as long as you can remember.  Colorado Theological Seminary has done its best to keep tuition affordable for its adult learners.  We have only had two tuition increases in the last ten years, and they have been nowhere near the national figures listed above.  The staff of CTS work extremely hard to keep costs low and operations streamlined so that you, the student, do not have to go into extreme debt in order to benefit from from our distance learning education.  But, there comes a point in a company's life cycle when it needs to consider changes.

To this end, CTS will be increasing base tuition costs as of December 1, 2009.  This is being done in order to defray the rising costs from our vendors and suppliers.  With very low margins, there is a need to pass costs onto our students.  This is simply a business necessity.  However, after analysis of our costs to other comparable seminary and Bible colleges with similar associations and affiliations, CTS will continue to be the affordable alternative.

 CTS Special Offer
As a benefit to our loyal students, we are offering the opportunity to purchase up to four courses per student in the month of November at current tuition rates.  As you know, CTS typically only allows students to take one course at a time.  However, since rates are rising as of 1 December, 2009, we are allowing current and new students the option of purchasing additional courses to garner savings.
