News From The Women's Cancer Resource Center      October 2009
Greetings!

ed1009As this month's eBulletin goes to press, staff and volunteers are working in overdrive to make WCRC's 14th Annual Swim a Mile for Women with Cancer the most successful event in our history. More than 580 swimmers and water walkers are registered, training and fundraising (compared to 500 last year) and nearly 200 volunteers will be performing such diverse activities as: lane counting and directing, food preparation and service, registration, t-shirt sales, body work, Mistresses of Ceremonies and more!

I look forward to this event every year and am awed by the collaborations that make it possible. My thanks to the Swim a Mile Committee (Cari Ballinger, Darlene deManincor, Ellen Gierson, Michele Houston, Sarah Kurhajetz, Kathy Marks, Peggy McGuire, Annie Muto, Jacqui Prisbylla, Margo Rivera-Weiss, John St. Germain, Ali Vogt) for meeting monthly since January, "pooling" your resources and creativity and keeping it fun always. Our Board of Directors is sponsoring this year's "Board Walk," an aerobic alternative that maintains coiffures and allows participants to converse while water walking. And finally, my deepest thanks to the swimmers and their supporters. As each one of you shares what inspires you to swim and give, you are spreading the word about the valuable work underway at the center and raising 20% of our operating budget.

See you on October 3rd and 4th at Mills College!

A Great Breakfast Recipe

Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. In my nutrition classes and in my practice, I counsel my clients to always include a protein, fat and complex carbohydrate with every meal and snack.
