About WCRC
News From The Women's Cancer Resource Center May 2009
Greetings!

copper heartWhen Page Hodel met Madalene Rodriguez, she wanted to say "I love you" in a way it had never been said before. She started leaving a beautifully-crafted heart on her doorstep on Sunday so that Madalene would find it on her way out the door on Monday.

Seven months after they met, Madalene was diagnosed with cancer and four months later she died. Two years have gone by and Page continues to create "Monday Hearts for Madalene" each week in tribute to her partner.

I am one of the lucky members of Page's "tribe" who find a heart every Monday morning among my e-mails. Thank you Page for sharing this emblem of joy and love with me.
Page is working with a publisher on a color photography book and deluxe greeting card set of "Monday Hearts for Madalene" that will be released in February of 2010. With extraordinary generosity, she has committed a portion of the proceeds to the Women's Cancer Resource Center. We received the first check from Page a couple of weeks ago. We have a lot to be grateful for at the Women's Cancer Resource Center, most of all each other.

I deeply appreciate the compassion and dedication you bring to the work every day.

Peggy McGuire
Executive Director

Walking for Women with Cancer
Please support David Golia as he walks to raise money for WCRC. After watching his older sister die from lung cancer and his younger sister and mother battle breast cancer he's decided that it's time to get off the couch and do something.

Dave has decided to walk up El Camino Real over 4 days starting May 21. Please take a look at his website for more information. www.daveswalk.com

He selected WCRC because he wants to support our clients because although the women in his family benefited from quality medical care and a large supportive family, many of our clients are not as fortunate.

Dave's goal is to raise $5,000 - $10,000 with this walk. Please visit our website where you can donate online and support Dave as well as the women we serve. http://www.wcrc.org/donate.htm

Do good while supporting the economy!

What if WCRC earned a penny every time you searched the Internet? Or how about if a percentage of every purchase you made online went to support our cause? Well, now it can!

www.GoodSearch.com  is a Yahoo-powered search engine that donates half its advertising revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate. Use it just as you would any search engine, get quality search results from Yahoo, and watch the donations add up!

GoodShop.com is a new online shopping mall which donates up to 37 percent of each purchase to your favorite cause! If you already shop at Amazon, Target, Gap, Best Buy, eBay, Macy's and Barnes & Noble use GoodShop and every time you place an order, you'll be supporting your favorite charity.

Just go to www.goodsearch.com and be sure to enter "Women's Cancer Resource Center" as the charity you want to support. Thank you for supporting WCRC.

Starting in the Fall: Support group for lesbian, bi and queer women with cancer

A new peer-led support group will be forming for lesbian, bi and queer women with cancer. We are fortunate to have Robyn Brooks, poet, playwright, and teacher of English and Creative Writing at Berkeley City College, who will co-facilitate the group and who will lead writing exercises to help create support for cancer patients.

We will explore issues around partner support (and lack of support), legal issues addressing hospital access, biological family vs chosen family, sexuality, dating after treatment, support for treatment decisions, coming out to hospital/ medical staff and any other issues that come up.

We will meet every other week for 8 meetings. Time to be determined.

ABOUT MINERALS By Sandy Der
