The Swim a Mile for Women With Cancer Update
Dear Swim A Mile Swimmers,

Thank you again for registering to swim in the Women's Cancer Resource Center's Swim A Mile for Women with Cancer swim-a-thon on October 6th and 7th.  We have only 13 days left until the big weekend and we currently have 440 swimmers registered - yipeee!

If this is the first Swim A Mile Snippets that you have received you can check out previous editions of Swim Snippets at: http://www.wcrc.org/swim/snippets.htm.

Don't forget: if you raise over $500 then you will receive a Swim A Mile Sammy (a swimmers towel).

Volunteers

We are in need of volunteers on Sunday morning and afternoon. These are the times and the jobs that we need filled:

9am - 12noon: Lane Counting - help our swim35swimmers reach their goal by counting their laps.  The job is easy and relaxing!

2:30 - 5:30pm:  Lane Counting - see above

2:30 - 5:30pm:  Pledge Processing - help us deal with the donations that come in. You'll be working with the WCRC accounting staff.

Swim Trainings

Are you having problems with your crawl? Does your kick just not seem to get you where you want to go?  To get your swim technique into tip top shape for the Swim A Mile we are offering all swimmers training sessions with the Mills College Swim Team.  There is one more training left:

swim 36Saturday, Sept. 27th THIS SATURDAY! , 9-11am (9am for beginners, 10am stroke clinic for more experienced swimmers)

The training sessions will be held at Mills College Pool. The cost is $5, payable at the door. This money goes to benefit the Women's Cancer Resource Center and the Mills College Swim Team.

To RSVP please email me at ali@wcrc.org. If you have already RSVP'ed then no need to RSVP again.

If you are bringing children and they are not participating in the Swim A Mile or the training sessions, please do not leave them unattended or intend for them to free swim.  We do not have enough lifeguards on duty to allow them to swim outside of the training sessions. Thanks!

Important Tips for the Swim-A-Mile Itself

Please remember that in swimming your mile at the event you can use any swim aid that you wish. But also know that Mills College will not have kickboards, swim buoys, snorkels, fins or any other swimming aids to loan us. So we will all need to bring our own.  So please borrow, beg or buy what you need while you still have time to make those arrangements.

swim 37Also remember that because we are trying to cut down on our waste we won't be providing disposable water bottles this year. We ask that you bring your own water bottle. We will have filtered water for you to fill up your water bottles with!

We are hoping to decrease the amount of cash we receive at the event. When you come to the event we are reqeusting that you please write us a check out of your personal account for any cash you received from your sponsors. We understand that you will still use cash for merchandise and for some pledges, but we would like to keep the amount of cash to a minimum. Thank you!

Please email me or call me with questions or concerns I can be reached at ali@wcrc.org or 510/527-1918. Thank you!
