The Swim a Mile for Women With Cancer Update
Dear Swim A Mile Swimmers,

The Swim A Mile is getting closer every day - just three weeks away - and it is going to be a fantastic event.  I would like to let you know how much we appreciate the fundraising swim31you've done so far, and to encourage you to do all you can in the coming weeks to meet your $250 donation minimum.

Feeling apprehensive about approaching your family, friends and colleagues for support? Remember to make your request personal, tell your own story and be specific about what you need and how they can help. For more tips, check this page out: http://www.wcrc.org/swim/fundraising.htm or call me and we can talk through how you can raise your $250 minimum.

Currently we have 387 swimmers registered and that means that we are on track to host 500 swimmers at this year's event, We are so excited that so many people will be joining us on October 4th and 5th.

If this is the first Swim A Mile Snippets that you have received you can check out previous editions of Swim Snippets at: http://www.wcrc.org/swim/snippets.htm

I have been busy lining up awesome DJs, body workers, and food donations so we can show all of you a wonderful time as well as reward you for working so hard to benefit the Women's Cancer Resource Center and women with cancer.

Healing Cards

Many of you have asked if there will be a way to commemorate or honor those you are swimming in honor or in memory of.  And the answer is YES! In the past we have done fabric Healing Tapestries.  We have found that they are not the most environmentally swim32friendly and the Swim a Mile committee has decided to return to a paper based memorial.  Swimmers are invited to decorate their own individual 4.25" x 5.5" Healing Card - you can use as many as you wish - to commemorate the person or persons that they are swimming in honor or in memory of. We'll have tape, glue and markers for you to decorate your card.  Please bring photos with you that you can attach to the Healing Cards.

Fundraising Incentives

Don't forget that the WCRC will be awarding all swimmers who raise over $500 with an awesome Swim A Mile Sammy (a small swimmers' towel).

If you can, please mail in your pledges that swim 33are cash and checks prior to the Swim A Mile. But please be sure to write down all these donations onto a pledge form so you have a record of what was sent in. This is the address you will send them to:

Swim A Mile
Women's Cancer Resource Center
5741 Telegraph Ave.
Oakland, CA 94609

You can also bring the cash and check pledges to the Swim A Mile event itself.  Thank you to all swimmers for supporting women affected by cancer.  We really appreciate all your fundraising finesse!

Swim Trainings

Are you having problems with your crawl? Does your kick just not seem to get you where you want to go?  To get your swim technique into tip top shape for the Swim A Mile we swim34are offering all swimmers training sessions with the Mills College Swim Team.  There is one more training left:

Saturday, Sept. 27th , 9-11am (9am for beginners, 10am stroke clinic for more experienced swimmers)

The training sessions will be held at Mills College Pool. The cost is $5, payable at the door. This money goes to benefit the Women's Cancer Resource Center and the Mills College Swim Team.

To RSVP please email me at ali@wcrc.org.  If you have already RSVPd then no need to do so again.

If you are bringing children and they are not participating in the Swim A Mile or the training sessions, please do not leave them unattended or intend for them to free swim.  We do not have enough lifeguards on duty to allow them to swim outside of the training sessions. Thanks!

As usual, let me know of questions or concerns.  Can't wait to see each of you in only 17 days!

Thanks - Ali Vogt, Swim A Mile Coordinator
