The Swim a Mile for Women With Cancer Update
Dear Swim A Mile Swimmers,

We have 6 weeks left until the big Swim A Mile for Women with Cancer. We have registered over 245 swimmers - which is great for this time prior to the event.  We expect swim 14to host 550 swimmers October 4th and 5th.  Thank you again for swimming to benefit women with cancer and the Women's Cancer Resource Center.

I wanted to be sure that you received a confirmation letter via email or snail mail when you registered either via the website, fax or mail. If you did not get a letter please email me and I will get you one.  It seems that a few swimmers did not get it.

For those swimmers who have registered in the last two weeks, this is your first version of the Swim A Mile Snippets.  The Snippets are event updates, reminders and helpful tips to help you maximize your Swim A Mile experience.  I will be emailing them out each week (hopefully!). If you don't want to receive these Swim A Mile Snippets just let me know and I will take you off the list.  If you want to look at the archived Swim Snippets then please click here.

Fundraising Incentives

As I wrote in the last Swim Snippets (and to alert those swimmers who registered in the last two weeks), we are awarding incentives for swimmers to send in their donations prior swim 15to the Swim A Mile to help out our accounting staff.  If you send in your $250 in donations by September 1 (THIS COMING MONDAY!) you will win a really classy Swim A Mile long sleeved T (white with embroidery) (which will be awarded to you at the Swim A Mile).  You can mail your donations to:

Swim A Mile
Women's Cancer Resource Center
5741 Telegraph Ave
Oakland, CA 94609

For those swimmers who raise over $500 in pledges we will be rewarding you with an awesome Swim A Mile Sammy (a small swimmers' towel)!

Swim-a-Palooza: A Pool Party

Please join us for a Swim A Mile pre-event called the Swim-a-Palooza: A Pool Party, on Saturday, September 6, 9am - 11am at Mills College Pool. This is a chance for swimmers swim4to check out the pool and also get some awesome coaching and tips in preparation for the big weekend.  We will be offering:
  • Flip-turn coaching
  • Fundraising tips
  • Meet-and-greet with fellow swimmers
  • Breakfast
Please let us know if you will be joining us by emailing swim@wcrc.org. Thank you to those who have already RSVP'ed.

Sports Basement Can Help You Raise Your $250

Sports Basement is offering "shopping parties" for Swim A Mile swimmers. This is how it works: Swimmers will invite their friends and family to the store of their choice.  The swim 13swimmer could then give a pitch about why you are doing the Swim A Mile and ask for their support - but this isn't necessary.  Sports Basement will provide food and beverages as well as have some fun games and prizes for your guests.

To add to everyone's fun time, they will extend an additional 10% to 15% off on any shopping your guests would like to do that day and they will donate 5% of the sales from that party back to WCRC, attributed to that swimmer's total. It's a perfect way for swimmers to raise their $250!

IF you are interested or would like more information please contact sarah@wcrc.org or call her at 510/601-4040 x 105.

Please let me know of any questions or concerns that come up for you along the way.  I can be reached at ali@wcrc.org or at 510/527-1918.

Happy Training!

P.S.  I also wanted to let you know about another awesome event the WCRC is putting on:
