About WCRC
News From The Women's Cancer Resource Center May 2008
Greetings!

Many wonderful individuals and organizations support the Women's Cancer Resource Center and we are grateful to all.

A special group of young people are working together to raise money to support WCRC's East Bay Breast Cancer Emergency Fund, which provides financial assistance to women with breast cancer to help pay for rent, utilities, food and medication.

The Young Entrepreneurs at Haas (YEAH) are Berkeley undergraduates who partner with middle school students to develop entrepreneurial projects that teach business practices grounded in community service.

With the support of YEAH, nine students from the Martin Luther King Middle School have created a t-shirt company they named CAL Stars, with its own unique t-shirt design. The students have sold their t-shirts to family members, fellow students and teachers and donated all their profits to the East Bay Breast Cancer Emergency Fund.

WCRC thanks Joanie Lam from Yeah and the students from the Martin Luther King Middle School:

What's All the Fuss About Antioxidants?
By Sandy Der

If we need oxygen to live, why do we want ANTIOXIdants? Remember musical chairs -- when the music stops, everyone rushes for a chair because there's at least one less chair than there are people. The person left standing is out of the game.

As your body carries out its normal processing, unpaired - and unstable - atoms are created. These unstable atoms are called "free radicals." Instead of dropping out quietly, they stick around wreaking havoc - basically trying to throw everyone else out of their chairs.

OUR MISSION

To empower women with cancer to be active and informed consumers and survivors; to provide community for women with cancer and their supporters; to educate the general community about cancer; and to be actively involved in the struggle for a life-affirming, cancer-free society.
