"Libations on the Lawn" at the Museum

The Museum of Culpeper History is hosting "Libations on the Lawn", the first Friday evenings from May to September. What a great way to start your weekend right after work. Join us for a day of celebration and patriotism in and around downtown Culpeper. The Independence Day Celebration is safe and affordable family fun for everyone. Enjoy a day filled with a 5K Race, patriotic speeches, a festive parade, games for children and adults, a Battle of the Bands, and so much more. And of course, Culpeper's magnificent FIREWORKS display to delight everyone! Bring your friends and family for this traditional Culpeper event! The 4th of July Car and Bike ShowSunday, July 4, 2010 - 10:00am - 3:00pm 
 
The 11th Annual 4th of July Car & Bike Show will take place in Downtown Culpeper on Davis Street at the Depot. The show is open and free to spectators. The event starts at 10:00 am and includes custom, classic, and antique cars, and motorcycles and trucks. Registration for participants is from 8:00 am - 10:00 am Pre-registration is suggested. Enjoy the sounds of summer at the Bluemont Summer Concerts on the Culpeper Courthouse lawn. $5 per person, $4 Bluemont Friends & Seniors, $2 kids under 12. There are no advance ticket sales; tickets available at concert. In case of bad weather: concerts are held at the Culpeper Train Depot, 109 Commerce Street, Culpeper. We prefer to hold Bluemont concerts outside if possible, though summer weather can change quickly and is sometimes hard to predict. Always go to the outdoor concert site first; if the concert has moved, proceed to the nearby indoor site. Join the Germanna Foundation for this annual weekend of fun and educational events. Bus tours will take you to the First and Second Colonies of Culpeper, Fauquier, and Madison Counties and sites of interest to descendants of the 1714 Germanna colonists. Attend a historical and genealogical conference featuring local authors, historians, preservationists and others for a full day of lectures and discussions. Saturday evening, enjoy an al fresco banquet and auction on the grounds of beautiful Salubria, on Rte 3, 5 miles east of Culpeper. No fee to enter parade. Crowning of the Honorary Fire Chiefs on Friday night. Live music Friday & Saturday nights. SATURDAY, JULY 3, 2010

8:00 am FREEDOM 5-K RACE - Begins at 8am sharp at Gold's Gym in the Southgate Shopping Center.

9:00am - 3:00pm YOUTH SOCCER & LITTLE LEAGUE - All tournaments take place in Yowell Meadow Park.  

10:00am - 5:00pm  1776 IN CULPEPER - Step back in time and see what life was like in 1776! The Museum of Culpeper History and the Out of Time Teachers invite you to a Colonial-era tavern  in the Burgandine house, built circa 1749. 803 S. Main Street.

12:00 Noon  PATRIOTIC PROGRAM:  READING OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE - The Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), Culpeper Minute Men Chapter, will present a program that includes the reading of the Declaration of Independence on the courthouse lawn. Enjoy the songs by the Blue Ridge Chorale and the sounds of a fife and drum corps. 

4:00 pm  INDEPENDENCE DAY - MAIN STREET PARADE - This hometown parade is open to everyone wishing to participate, so continue the long-standing tradition and be a part of the 16th Annual Main Street Parade.

4:30 pm CULPEPER OLYMPICS - Bring your competitive spirit to Yowell Meadow Park for the 3rd Annual Culpeper Olympics! Family fun for all ages. Be an Olympic champion in the Sack Race, Egg Toss, Frisbee Throw, 3-Legged Race, Hula Hoop, or Water Balloon Toss.  Aside from fame and bragging rights, awards will be given to the winners of each event!

4:30 pm DINNER AND BATTLE OF THE BANDS IN THE PARK - Yowell Meadow Park is the place to be for food, music and entertainment. Enjoy all kinds of delicious food and treats, then spend some time visiting the art & craft vendors in the parking lot area. This year, a variety of musicians will entertain you as they compete to win the Independence Day Battle of the Bands. Enjoy great music beginning at 5:15 pm. 

9:15 pm FIREWORKS!!! (Time approximate in the event of inclement weather)  - The Grand Finale of a fun-filled day can only be FIREWORKS!

 

SUNDAY, JULY 4, 2010

10:00 am - 3:00 pm CULPEPER RENAISSANCE  4th OF JULY CAR and BIKE SHOW - A full day show at The Depot and Davis Street in Downtown Culpeper. Judging begins at 10am, awards are presented at 2.30pm.
