October is National Bullying Prevention Month
In recognition of National Bullying Prevention Month, PACER center is sponsoring events to bring attention to the issues around bullying.
Join the movement to "Make it orange and make it end!" and unite against bullying. Make your color orange on Unity Day, Wednesday, Oct. 12. That's the day everyone can link together-in schools, communities and online-and send a message of support to students who have experienced bullying. Students can unite against bullying on Unity Day by wearing the color orange, using the resources on PACER.org/bullying, handing out orange "UNITY" ribbons at school, or writing the word "UNITY" on their hands or binders. Facebook is partnering with PACER by posting information about PACER activities on its safety, educator, and privacy pages during October.
Oct. 26, Unity Dance Day
On Wednesday, Oct. 26, people everywhere can come together in song and dance to raise awareness for bullying prevention by organizing a Unity Dance Day. Schools and community organizations can find everything they need to plan a Unity Dance Day in PACER's online toolkit. The toolkit includes the designated song for the dance, the choreographed dance moves, and additional materials and resources.
For more information on these events and bullying prevention visit the PACER website.

ADHD Awareness Week October 16 - 22, 2011
The ADHD Awareness Coalition has announced the dates for the 2011 ADHD Awareness Week as October 16 - 22. The theme of this year's activities will be "ADHD. Get the Facts." Four to 7 million children (5-9% of the population) and 9 to 13 million adults (4-6% of the population) in the U.S. have Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
People with ADHD can be very successful in life. But without appropriate identification and treatment, ADHD can have serious consequences, including school failure, depression, conduct disorder, failed relationships, and substance abuse. Early identification and treatment are extremely important.

New Guide for Families of Infants and Toddlers
Welcome to EZ AT II, a guide for parents and professionals who want to help infants and toddlers with disabilities partici-
pate more fully in daily activities. This guide shows how using simple assistive technology (AT) can help children with disabilities from birth to age 3 reach that goal.
AT refers to a wide range of products, devices and strategies that help increase or improve a person's ability to
participate in life activities such as playing, reading, communicating, etc. AT opens doors of possibilities and can
help infants and toddlers develop important developmental and early learning skills.

Bullying and Your Child's Individual Education Program
Although they may be targets, children who are bullied do not have to remain victims. With the appropriate tools and support systems in place, a child can be a part of changing the situation. One critical tool available to parents is the Individualized Education Program or IEP.
A child's team - parents, educators, therapists and/or psychologists and school officials - should work together to make the IEP reflect the child's unique needs. To find out more visit the Peak Parent Center website.
