Lakes Region Association hosts
73rd Annual Business Meeting

 
scholarship winnerOn Wednesday, October 7, 2009, business owners, managers, and State Representatives attended the Lakes Region Association's 73rd Annual Business Meeting, dockside on the MS Mount Washington in Weirs Beach.
 
President Fred Clausen of Proctor's Lakehouse Cottages opened the meeting with high praise of the Lakes Region Association's accomplishments over the past year and the amazing growth the organization has seen in recent years and as the oldest regional tourism marketing organization in the state.  The following officers were elected: Brad Lipe, the Laker, as President; Frederic Clausen, Proctor's Lakehouse Cottages, as Immediate Past President; Gail Batstone, Inns and Spa at Mill Falls, as 1st Vice President; Greg Goddard, Gunstock Mountain Resort, as 2nd Vice President; Mel Borrin, Preferred Vacation Rentals as Treasurer and the Secretary seat remained vacant for the time being.
 
The following Directors were elected by the full membership:  Sean Brown, Common Man Family of Restaurants; Pam Patoine, Courtyard by Marriott & Grappone Conference Center; Dyan Driscoll, Cozy Inn & Cottages / Lakeview House & Cottages; Mary Ellen Dutton, Kellerhaus; Mary Lamprey Bare, Lamprey & Lamprey; Jim Morash, M/S Mount Washington Cruises; Deb Irwin, Manor on Golden Pond; Patricia Poore, Member at Large; Doug Cutillo, Steele Hill Resorts; David Doyle, Sun Valley Cottages; Thomas Boucher, T-Bones Great American Eatery / Cactus Jack's Grill & Watering Hole; Karen Beranger, Wolfeboro Inn. Lifetime Director, Mildred Beach.
 
Amy Landers, Executive Director for the Association, provided an overview of the organization's extensive marketing plan to promote the Lakes Region in state, out-of- state and internationally to bring more visitors to the area.
 
The Mildred A. Beach Hospitality Scholarship is awarded annually at the Association's Business Meeting to a student attending a college, university or technical college in the Lakes Region and pursing a degree in tourism/hospitality/culinary.
 
Lakes Region Association board member and Treasurer Mel Borrin was honored to introduce this year's recipient, Benjamin Cartier. Cartier is a student at the Lakes Region Community College and is pursuing a culinary arts degree and currently works at O'Steaks and Seafood as a line cook. Cartier grew up in the Belmont / Laconia area, played football for the Laconia High School, and is on the National Honors Society at the Lakes Region Community College.
