PLEASE READ - THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT INFO!
Recently we have had a number of calls from members who are confusing the Lakes Region Association with the Greater Laconia-Weirs Beach Chamber of Commerce, which is now calling itself the Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce.
Established in 1936, the Lakes Region Association's mission is to promote the Lakes Region of New Hampshire as a year-round destination to bring more visitors to the area and economically benefit our member's businesses. Our focus is Tourism Marketing & Promotion in state, out of state and internationally. Typically chambers of commerce focus on member business networking events, education programs, legislative issues, economic growth, community vitality and promotion of member business goods and services. While we do touch on a number of these areas as benefits to our members and to keep ourselves current with the times, they are not our primary focus. We do, however, provide a list of the various chambers of commerce in the Lakes Region area on our website www.lakesregion.org for members and guests of the region to reference. They can be found under "Regional Information" on the Where To Ask page.
To further explain what the Lakes Region Association does with your membership and advertising dollars here are some 2008 campaign highlights.
Each year, the Lakes Region Association produces two tourism publications, the "Official Lakes Region" Where to Guide and the Map & Guide. Because we encompass all of the region's chambers of commerce - our publications cover the ENTIRE Lakes Region which includes all of Central New Hampshire, not just one town, lake or area. Because of our extensive national and international reach and the fact that our publications are not just produced and placed in racks but backed by a hard-hitting national and international advertising campaign we produce nearly A MILLION of them - 300,000 Where to Guides and 600,000 Map & Guides. The Map & Guides can also be found in racks up and down the Eastern Seaboard.
The Lakes Region Association again in 2008 increased its International Marketing budget to aggressively promote our region to other countries. The current activities target trade, consumer and press strategies including tourism trade shows, sales, sales & training missions, consumer travel shows, public relations, consumer & travel trade fulfillment of requests and travel agent training.
Another part of our operations that was expanded this year was marketing to group travelers. The Association placed many advertisements in prominent publications that cater to group travel and also produced an interactive CD Rom designed specifically for Tour Operators that include samples of our newly developed multi-day itineraries, virtual tours, press releases and high resolution photography. In addition Association established a new program that provides telemarketing services to businesses, tour operators, and social groups to sell the Lakes Region as a meeting/group destination. Step-on Guide services are available through the Association.
As part of this increase in our international marketing and group plans, the Lakes Region Association travels several times annually to European countries including the United Kingdom, Ireland, France Italy, Canada and Germany to personally meet with travel writers and group tour operators to encourage them to include the Lakes Region of New Hampshire in their articles and tours. The Association is also very proactive with both domestic and international travel writers hosting many writers and photographers this past year. Each year, the Lakes Region Association produces 4 custom e-blasts are sent directly to qualified travel writers (and another 4 to group tour operators) along with 20 press releases annually in an effort to inspire them to feature the Lakes Region of New Hampshire in their publications.
To even further support our marketing campaigns the Lakes Region Association rebuilt all of our websites to allow for an enhanced user experience by our members and guests. All of our websites are comprehensive and have very high traffic -- www.lakesregion.org for up to the minute happenings, Where to Stay, Play, Dine, and Shop listings, Real Estate and Services listings, vacation travel incentives, regional information, photos, interactive maps and more; www.lakesregion.org/media designed and maintained to assist travel writers and media outlets in publishing articles on the Lakes Region; www.lakesregion.org/groups to assist group tour operators, travel agents and group travelers; www.YuletideMagicNH.com to promote holiday travel to the region.
Consider the Lakes Region Association your own personal marketing team for your business. We know the region, the marketplace audience and industry trends better than anyone!
