Dear NPLD Site Managers, Partners and Volunteers:
Spring is the perfect time to get outside and enjoy a park, forest or community garden. On your next trip to your favorite public land, consider bringing your video camera to highlight your activities. You can then enter the Step into America video contest and possibly win some great prizes from REI, including camping gear or even a mountain bike!
The Step into America video contest is looking for short, 30-120 second, videos that highlight the ways Americans are staying active on public lands. Please click here to learn more about the prizes and rules of the contest.
The contest is open until May 24, 2012. Please make sure you get your submissions in. We can't wait to showcase everybody's activities.
Get out there!

Second Round of Every Day Grants open until May 25

Every Day Grants provide funding to strengthen the effectiveness of public lands friends groups. These grants help fund capacity building projects such as staff and board training, fundraising, and technology and website development.
This year, The National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) is supporting two cycles of Every Day Grants. Each cycle supports 25 organizations with grants of up to $5,000 each.
The second grant cycle is now open. The deadline to submit a pre-proposal is May 25, 2012. To submit a pre-proposal or read Frequently Asked Questions, visit the Every Day Grants webpage.
Every Day Grants are made possible with the support of Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. The support from Toyota has led to the expansion of the Every Day Grants, National Public Lands Day and other public lands programming at The National Environmental Education Foundation.

2011 Volunteer at
Campbell Tract
|
The Bureau of Land Management's Campbell Tract facility provides a fun getaway for families in the middle of Anchorage, Alaska. More than 120,000 people visit the public land each year to walk or ski the trails, explore the forested land or learn about the local environment at the nature center.
Campbell Tract is a long time supporter of National Public Lands Day and the facility hosts a large volunteer event each year. For 2012, approximately 150 community members will participate in seven projects including streambank revegetation, invasive plant removal and painting. In addition, as one of the most used nature centers in Anchorage, the Campbell Creek Science Center will receive needed upgrades, landscaping and other restoration projects to improve the visitor experience.
