Greetings!
Late last month I wrote to you about our long-time EWF member
Dee Dee Dixon Rund, who was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of
leukemia and will need a bone marrow transplant. Your response was overwhelming.
I admit I had some hesitation about using our business
contact list for such a personal request.
Since EWF began in 1999, we have been diligent about keeping our communication
and our services tightly focused on business issues.
But now we are faced with a matter of survival for someone
we love dearly. So I am blurring the
lines between business and personal. But
then again...for women those lines were pretty fluid to begin with.
Anthropologist Margaret Mead is famous for saying, "Never
doubt that a small group of highly committed people can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
That's what we have the opportunity to do, right here, right
now - we can change odds for Dee Dee and in doing so we can change the world.
A small committed team of ten volunteers - EWF members,
colleagues and friends of Dee Dee - have put together an incredible campaign to
get 2,000 people to register for a marrow match for Dee Dee (and others in
need) by the end of the month.
In less than three weeks these amazing women have scheduled
ten - yes ten - bone marrow and blood drives for Dee Dee between February 11th
and February 20th. We have
locations across the city, from Edmond to Norman, at churches, schools,
hospitals and businesses - and at a Thunder vs. Mavericks game!
We have a FaceBook page set up (556 fans of Dee Dee
already!) and a Twitter account. We have volunteers
in place to help Be the Match staff the registry tables.
We have stickers that read "I Hope I'm the One! #SaveDeeDee" for everyone who registers tor a
marrow match. We have communication messages ready to be sent.
Now what we need is 200 people at each event. I hope one of those people will be you.
And I hope you will help us blanket the metro areas with the
message to attend the events. Please
help us spread the word by forwarding this email and posting the following on your FaceBook or LinkedIn page:
Friends of Dee Dee Dixon Rund, diagnosed with an aggressive
form of leukemia, are asking for your help in securing 2,000 people to get a
simple cheek-swab to find a marrow match. Dee Dee is mom to Morgan, 16, Emmery, 11, and wife to Kevin for nearly 20
years. See all the dates & locations
at http://bit.ly/SAVEDDDR. And by sending the following message on your Twitter
account:
#SaveDeeDee Need 200 attendees each day, 10 days, 10 locations for painless marrow match. Be The One! http://bit.ly/SAVEDDDR
When people ask what EWF does, I tell them about our services, but I also tell them at a core level, we create community. We are creating community now, and invite you to be a part of our entire community reaching out to help not just one family, but so many who need us. Take care, Darcie Harris
