 Other Taxes 

The Registered Tax Return Preparer competency examination began on November 2011 and there is a transition period running until December 31, 2013. Until December 31, 2013 you can take the exam with your provisory PTIN; after that date, you must pass the competency exam first in order to obtain a PTIN.
