High Density or Low Density Data Centers
The cost to build and run a data center is always on the rise. The overall cost includes capital and operating expenses. One good piece of news is that the computing capabilities in the data center are increasing at a much higher rate than the total cost of ownership. This means that the actual cost per unit of computing performance is coming down.
One thought in the data center world is that the total cost of a new data center is lower with a low density design because it doesn't require a superior design or a complex power delivery and cooling system. To verify the results, Intel compared the purchase costs of architectural space, power and cooling systems, and lifetime operational costs.
