Choosing a Server Rack
It is very important to choose the correct server rack because it can keep your equipment cool, power your equipment and minimize your down time. When choosing a rack make sure that you will have enough space to house all of your equipment and any equipment you might want to purchase in the future. The internal height of a data center rack is measured from the highest point of the side rail to the bottom chassis. Heights are measured in what is called a U. 1U equals 1.75 inches.
A 42U cabinet is 73.5 inches. The inside depth of the rack is measured from the insides of the front and rear doors. The inside width is measured one side panel to the other. Make sure before ordering that the racks size will fit through all doorways and will be able to accommodate the floor space provided for. When loading equipment into the rack make sure that the heavier pieces go on the bottom to prevent the rack from becoming too top heavy.
