Technology Update:
SSDs vs. Hard Drives
We feel this article is of interest to you, our customers, because we understand that every rack is fully equipped with disk drives inside of them. Seagate has provided us with this article to talk about the pros and cons of SSDs vs. hard drives.
With new technology breakthroughs seeming to emerge almost daily, it's easy to become a bit jaded. Claims of newer, faster, better are so commonplace that it's difficult for genuinely innovative products to get the attention they deserve. A noteworthy exception is solid state drives (SSDs), which fire the imagination of business laptop users with their extraordinary speed and implicit (no moving parts!) reliability. Could SSDs spell the end of hard disk drives (HDDs)?

Dear Valued SharkRack Customer,
September was a good month for us here at SharkRack and October has started off with a bang. Fall is here, the leaves are turning colors and SharkRack is moving forward. We have lowered our prices on many items along with stocking our most popular racks for instant delivery. This months newsletter will contain a new contributor; Seagate Technologies. Everyone here uses drives in their racks and I thought it would be appropriate to inform the readers of the latest news in drive technology. We also have an article from Server Technology and don't forget to enter to win one of our three Apple iPod Shuffle's.
Sincerely,
Bill Albert, VP Sales - SharkRack

34 New Products Join the Server Technology CDU Line
Server Technology announced the release of over 200 new data center products this year, reflecting the need for custom and unique data center power innovation and technology. "We are really excited to be releasing even more products into the CDU market. This is the third time this year we have done a batch launch of products and it won't be the last. We have the largest engineering team dedicated solely to CDUs and we'll continue to drive the industry with our engineering horsepower. Data center and telecom power distribution is our focus. We work very closely with our customers and develop these solutions to meet their goals," said Brandon Siri, Senior Marketing Rep at Server Technology, "Server Technology believes in quality, customer care, and providing comprehensive support. Each of our new products receives the attention of the best minds in the industry." The new products included in this launch are: - Switched CW-24VD/VY - 3Ph, 50/60A 12xC13 & 12xC19.
This new Switched CW-24VD/VY CDU was specifically designed to provide 50/60A power while being able to fit into the 69" (1753mm) length required by many 42U racks. This product provides 12xC19 and 12xC13 outlets. The additional C19 receptacles make this CDU ideal for blade server installations or other applications that require C19 receptacles. - Smart CS-42VD/VY - 3Ph, 50/60A 42xC13.
The new Smart CS-42V provides a 42 outlet CDU in a 1U wide vertical form factor. This product has a top display and bottom cord entry. It meets the need for data center managers who want higher density power but don't have the room in the rear of the rack to go to a 2U wide CDU. - Switched CW-30VD/VY - 3Ph, 20/30A 24xC13 and 6xC19 with PIPS.
This new Switched CW-30VD/VY mixed outlet CDU has many desirable features. The CDU provides 30 receptacles while keeping the unit at 69" length. The product has a middle display with top power cord entry thus it can easily be used for busway power or rotated for raised floor installations. PIPS (Per Inlet Power Sensing) is a standard feature on this product. This product should make a lot of sense for data center managers who have been using all C13 products and now want to add some C19 outlets. - POPS Switched CWG-30VD/VY - 3Ph, 20/30A 30xC13 with PIPS.
This unit has 30xC13 outlets and thus meets the requirements of customers who want higher density CDUs to power their servers. The design is middle display with top power. These two products are our first Switched POPS (Per Outlet Power Sensing) CDUs that also include PIPS measurement of the inlet power. They are ideal for high-end data centers that demand a feature rich product to make full use of Server Technology's measurement capabilities. - POPS Switched CWG-30VD/VY - 3Ph, 20/30A 24xC13 and 6xC19 with PIPS.
This product is similar to the all C13 design listed above BUT provides a mixed outlet option for customers that have blade servers, storage devices, and other products that require C19 receptacles.
