Best Practices When Using Blanking Panel

It is advisable to use blanking panels to prevent the random flow of air through the rack and the mixing of air from the hot and cold aisles. We advise customers to use Blanking Panels between the rack and enclosures to keep the aisles separate. Also, it is recommended that panels can be placed in unused equipment positions within the rack to maintain the hot-aisle/cold-aisle separation. Once this is done it will allow more cold air to be directed to the equipment rather than be wastefully passed through empty areas in the rack. SharkRack also advises customers to use Panels on the rear of the deep channel rack so the ambient air circulating around the switch is not warmed up by the air floating in the hot aisle. The same method also applies with front to back airflow equipment when cooling racks..

Did You Know ...

Heat build up diminishes server performance and equipment lifespan. For every 18° F (10° C) that internal cabinets rise above normal room temperature, the life expectancy of the enclosed electronics drops by 50%.

In the year 2006, US Data centers consumed 61B KWH of electricity at a cost of $4.5B.  The EPA is guessing that by 2012 this number will increase to a consumable number of 100B KWH of electricity and have companies across the nation paying $7.4B in electric bills.

Servers, routers, switches and other IT equipment in a typical data center consumes about half the total power.

The 61B KWH consumed by data centers in 2006 is more than what is required to run the nations 250 million TV sets.

Rack Security

When it comes to locking your rack, SharkRack closes the door with

Dirak. They offer a wide variety of products and are our preferred

vendor of choice.

If you are looking to take security on server racks to the next level,  E-LINE by DIRAK is now able to give you that opportunity.

E-LINE by DIRAK can help companies achieve compliancy (Such as: HIPPA, FISMA, SOX, & PCI) at the server level. Their technology merges the physical aspects of security with digital. E-LINE by DIRAK technology provides event logging, remote access, and digital time stamping. You can now control who & when authorized users will have access to your server racks. This can be achieved through the Administration Suite software package, while running over your existing IP infrastructure or on a 485 bus system.

Please check back soon as we get ready to launch DIRAK's new MLR series.

We can help you accomplish

4 easy things . . . . . . .

Information on lock status.

Those responsible for security must, in addition to constantly monitoring, documenting and regulating accesses to their server racks, also be able to obtain information on the lock status of the racks. Authorizing access to individual racks - for example to replace or maintain devices - must be able to be controlled individually for each cabinet.

Four eyes principle.

Individual racks containing servers that handle especially sensitive data require an especially high security level. One way to implement this is via the four eyes principle.

Local display and via the network.

A further aspect is displaying the actual lock states directly at the rack. Service technicians must be able to quickly find the server to be maintained, and to identify problems in the room. That a time limit has been exceeded, for example, should be displayed both to the technician at the rack and notified to the administration software.

Easily scalable.

Expanding or changing the number of racks, and thus the extent of access control, must be fully supported in all cases by the management system, and any changes must be able to be easily integrated into existing networks.

When ordering you next rack from SharkRack feel free to upgrade your locks to Diracks's eline products.
