The Fighting Stallions were a great backdrop for our three days of spiritual battle at Texas State University.

TABLE TALK

February 6, 2012, Texas State University, San Marcos

I had opportunity to chat with Dave and Doris before I started preaching.  Sister Pat stayed in her room today since it was cold in the low fifties.  Sister Doris said, "Sister Pat is a work of art."  Dave advised me, "You ought to charge people who travel with you.  If some parents were with you for a few days, they might have second thoughts about sending their children off to college.  And they could save themselves a lot of money and contribute more to the work of God."

I do have a way of bringing the worst out of the youth.  I want to show the world and demonstrate to them the utter depravity of the most of their lives.  Until men see the sinfulness of their sin, they will not come to true repentance.

"I do have a way of bringing the worst out in the youth," Bro. Jed

I quickly gathered an audience.  Some bearded weirdo had a small bowl and a stick with which he made a loud high pitched sound.  Then a guitarist was in my face and loudly singing attempting to drown me out.  I think he was surprised when he received opposition from most of the crowd, which evidently shamed him to silence.  The weirdo continued off and on for much of the afternoon with his noise which had a hint of music from the Far East.  The guitarist had the effect of subduing my audience.  For the first 30 minutes I was able to do some effective teaching with about 25 in a semi-circle in front of me.  I noticed that Dave at one point even had a crowd larger than mine.  Sister Doris had a smaller group around her for most of the afternoon.

When I said negative things about one of the icons on campus, Gandhi, Averroes, whose folks are from India, agreed with me that he was not a good person.  Years ago I read a book entitle, The Gandhi Nobody Knows, which relates how Gandhi slept with under aged girls to allegedly test his self-control.  He also had a fixation on his own bowel movements.  Averroes pointed out that Gandhi was a racist.  It seems that Gandhi was able to appear spiritual to westerners since he wore diapers and wrapped himself in a white sheet and wore rimless glasses.  Averroes, himself, was an admitted whore-monger.  For the purpose of contrasting my past life with my present preaching and to expose some of the tricks of sex-crazed college boys, I confessed to some of my college escapades.  Averroes wanted to give me high fives for that is the life-style to which he relates.

There was a highly emotional and high strung Christian girl making a great commotion singing and pleading with the students.  She may have been in the Spirit but I had my doubts; I was not close enough to discern.  She was a distraction from the preaching which is the principle reason I question her bizarre behavior.  I believe if she was in the Spirit, she would be careful not to interrupt the preaching. On the other hand perhaps the Lord was using her and she was simply immature and overzealous.  I hope to be able to talk to her tomorrow.  I finally moved my crowd away from her.

Loud and emotional Christian girl was a distraction for a couple of days.

At 4:40 I wrapped things up.  As I was leaving, Averroes asked me, "Did not Jesus eat and drink with sinners?"  I answered, "Yes, Jesus did not come to call the righteous to repentance, but sinners."  Averroes suggested that I have dinner with him.  I encouraged him to invite others and we made a general announcement to the group we would be meeting for dinner and discussion at Luby's.  Nine students showed up at the cafeteria.  I sat at the head of the table.  Josh, one of the professing Christians, opened the discussion by asking me my purpose.  I could discern a look of disapproval in his countenance.  After about 10 minutes I asked, "How many are Christians?"  Five, who were sitting at my end, raised their hand.  I said, "OK, the good guys are on my end of the table; the bad guys are on the other end."

The other Christians objected, but I insisted on drawing lines.  Josh was soon giving the usual defense for sin.  After I finished eating, I asked one of the students in the middle of the table to trade chairs with me so I could more effectively dialogue with both groups.  Our session lasted for 90 minutes in which I was able to teach effectively on the moral law and the need for atonement and the rational of Jesus' death on the cross that he might extend mercy and still uphold the dictates of justice.  Averroes said as we were breaking up, "I owe you an apology; I thought you were crazy, but I see that you have a rational for what you believe."

"THE SWORD OF THE LORD AND GIDEON"

February 7, 2012, Texas State University,

With so many sin-excusing hypocrites at TSU, I decided to draw my two-edged sword and get right to the point.  The point of our sword is holiness, which is why our book is called the Holy Bible.  "It is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy."-1 Peter 1:15.  I rattled off scripture after scripture from the NT, which calls for a wholly sanctified life.  It was as if I was throwing sabers and plunging them into the hearts of sinners and hypocrites; the multitudes soon surrounded me.  But they were no threat; they have no weapons; they wear no armor; they are naked.  They simply emote and curse.  Few of them know how to form a logical argument.  The girl from yesterday who was wailing and singing continued to emote loudly today.  At one point about a dozen Christians came up to me and wanted to pray for me.  I refused, "If you want to pray, fine, but I have work to do.  You do not need my attention in order to pray for me.

Students at Texas State formed several prayer circles. They objected strongly to our approach and the holiness message.

They did form a prayer circle; they were not Tebowing.  After praying, they started singing songs of praise. I suspected their hope was to hinder students from hearing my message.  I responded, "This is a result of so many churches making praise songs the centerpiece of their church services.  They exalt music over the preaching of the Word.  Singers can inspire the troops but it takes the sword of the Lord to win the battle.

Gideon's mighty army of only 300 formed ranks against the Midianities, blew trumpets and cried, "The sword of the Lord and Gideon," which caused fear in the enemy camp.  The Lord intervened for Israel and brought such confusion among their enemies that they began to fight against each other and fled in terror.

As Matthew Henry comments, "The wicked are often led to avenge the cause of God upon each other, under the power of their delusions, and the fury of their passions. God often makes the enemies of the church instruments to destroy one another; it is a pity that the church's friends should ever act like them."

I preached for almost 90 minutes; meanwhile, another warrior joined us from Tyler, TX, Brother Jesse Morrell.  I called on Jesse who continued chopping away at sin with the ax of God's word.  I took relief from the crowd; soon students drifted over to ask me questions.  It wasn't long before I had a dozen or so desperately pleading for sin all in the name of Christ for two hours.

This sign held by a homosexual heckler, explains the campus mentality.

How can a holy God excuse sin?  I stood fast in the midst of this opposition; I demanded unconditional surrender of all sin or there will be no forgiveness.  I may have gotten through to a few.  Unfortunately, they will likely go back to their leaders who are liable to comfort them in their sin and guilt.  We need pastors and youth leaders who will plunge the sword in deeply until sinners cry out for mercy.  Of course, if the leaders have sin in their own lives, how can they righteously call anyone to repentance?

The girl who has been loudly wailing and singing the last two days apologized to me.   Both Jesse and Sister Pat think she has a spirit of divination.  Every now and then I would catch a look at what was happening around Jesse.  I noticed a circle of about 30 joining hands in a long prayer.  Of what spirit are they?

I returned to main field of battle about 4:20.  There were some especially lewd and brazen witches in the large and boisterous crowd.   One witch mockingly frequently flew through the crowd riding a make-shift broom.  I said, "Most females on this campus have become witches by falling prey to the feminist movement.  The scriptures say, 'For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.'"-1 Samuel 15:23.

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry--
1 Samuel 15:23.

In my last session a thoughtful young man stood in front of me asking a reason for my hope.  I answered with meekness and fear.  Through all the commotion I scored many apologetic points despite the distraction of the lusty hussies.  At 5:20 I announced that we were finished for the day.  Two men acknowledged that I had given them a lot to think about.  Another commended me for my passion.  Sister Pat by this time had a group of ten sitting around her as she taught on the beatitudes.  I announced anyone could join us at Luby's for dinner.  Three Christians showed up.  I briefly explained to them that sinners need to be treated as rebels and not victims.  I had to excuse myself after a short exhortation.  I left the students with Jesse and Sister Pat since I had a radio interview scheduled.  I was interviewed by a Christian married couple, who had planned to talk on the ministry of the Holy Spirit to convince the world of sin, righteousness and judgment.  The interviewers seemed to agree with everything I said.   I explained the Biblical doctrine of sanctification, which has been lost in virtually all of our churches.  The interview lasted for over an hour.

ESCORTED OFF CAMPUS

February 8, 2012, Texas State University

Sister Pat started the preaching with a packaged condom in her hand.  Soon she had a crowd of 75 surrounding her.  Next Jesse took the platform and the size of the crowd kept increasing.  At one point some boys gave him a group hug.  Soon the crowd enclosed around him.  He was going to move to higher ground which I considered a good time for me to take my turn.  I had not been preaching for more than 45 minutes when Heather Campbell, Coordinator, Student Organizations and Risk Management, came out with several policemen and informed us the there were complaints from professors concerning the noise.  They informed us that we had to hold it down or they would shut us down.

Sis. Pat preaching with condom in hand.

Now it was noisy and there must have been several hundred students by now.  However, I cannot imagine that the noise could be more than a minor disturbance within the buildings.  The students were very rowdy so I decided to attempt to divide the crowd so that we did not have to speak at the top of our voices.  I announced that I would be answering questions from intelligent people who had sincere questions.  Jesse would address the party animals.  Only about 25 followed me so Jesse had to deal with the animals.  I did have a pretty good session for a while answering relevant questions.  One fellow repeatedly asked me how I was so patient.  However, eventually the hypocrites came out justify sin.  One fellow I sharply rebuked for he would not hear the Scriptures.

The battle rages!  Bro. Jed has the white hat on.

By now  Sister Pat had a crowd around her.  About 3:15 the crowd cheered loudly when two lesbians kissed.  Finally, the police returned and ordered us to leave threatening us with arrest.

I announced to the students that we would be available at Luby's.  However, I did not expect any to come since I had sensed that the students hardened their hearts today.  We had clearly explained God's standard of holiness and I fear that they decided they did not want to have anything to do with it.  On the other hand, I am confident that we touched some hearts. With all the commotion most probably did not hear my invitation to join us at the cafeteria.

Bro. Jesse M., another full time campus preacher joined us at TSU.

When Jesse pressed the police, they became arrogant, which usually happens when they do not have a leg to stand upon.  Jesse suspected that the real problem may have been that so many students were cutting classes to listen to us.  We tend to bring the worst out in the students.  We reveal that so many students are virtually without self-control and are in fact anti-intellectual.  The students look bad and utterly perverted, which does not look good for the University.  There are parents who are touring campus with their sons and daughters.  I cannot imagine parents wanting to pay so much money to send their children to an institution inhabited by so many brute beasts.  The administration may be embarrassed concerning all the low life on their campus.

Sin abounds...but grace much more abounds!

I was surprised that the administration stopped us.  We have never had problems on this campus before with the authorities.  Typically, past meetings have been rowdy and boisterous.  Despite being stopped, we still got in three and one half hours of preaching.  Jesse is planning to return before the end of the semester.  Tomorrow and Friday we are schedule for UT, which has never been a campus open to free speech.  We have to preach on the public sidewalk.

Bro. Jed and Bro. Jesse were escorted off of TSU by the police, supposedly because the crowd was too noisy.  The university web site says space in front of the Fighting Stallions is the free speech area.

HOSPITAL OR FORTRESS?

February 9, 2012, University of Texas,

Jesse opened the meeting and quickly gathered a small crowd.  Jesse has a numerous effective one liners, "The devil is a faggot; I mean that literally."  Question from Jesse,   "Do you know what the worst STD is?"  Students did not know, so he answered, "Sexually transmitted damnation."  Student says, "All sin is the same."  Jesse responds, "That is just something people say to make homosexuals feel better."  A female passes by and curses.  Jesse responds, "Watch your language there may be a lady around."  Finally, on a more serious note, "Hate is not intrinsically evil; neither is love intrinsically good. It all depends upon the object of your hate or love.  It is good to hate evil; it is bad to love sin."

"Hate is not intrinsically evil; neither is love intrinsically good.," Bro. Jesse M.

Jesse had to deal with some idiot in a chicken suit, who frequently flew around him and through the crowd.  After Jesse had been speaking for 30 minutes one policeman after another began showing up.  Soon there were five policemen monitoring the situation.  This seemed to be quite an overreaction, especially since the gathering of 25 was relatively subdued.   Sister Pat later speculated that the police thought that we were Westboro Baptist Church.  She was probably right, because Jesse was holding his banner which says, "GOD HATES SIN."  People tend to identify the word hate with Westboro.  Dave informed the police that we were with the Campus Ministry USA.  The police did not bother our preaching except to warn Jesse not to cross the line unto University property.

Chicken heckler and Bro. Jesse.

When I started a jackass with a horse's head, who wore nothing but a pair of shorts, started dancing and gyrating around me shouting nonsense.  Sometimes he put on a devil's mask instead of the horse's head.  I remembered him from previous years.  Sometime he would roll around the sidewalk and make strange noises.  He carried on all afternoon; I suppose he was a distraction to the students but he was not to me.  At one point the jackass confessed that his attempts at humor were no match for my wit.

The miserable soul on the right alternated with a horse head and devil mask.

At UT-Austin we have to preach on the sidewalk. We are not allowed on campus. It's Texas!

One woman, who confessed to having a child out of wedlock and who was quite vocal and argumentative, threw a cup of hot coffee on me as she walked away.  She did not get far until the Lord arrested her; she returned to stay for most of the afternoon.  She was unrepentant and gloated in her action of dousing me with the coffee.  For most of the afternoon the crowd was around 50, sometimes swelling to twice that size.  After an hour I was going to turn the meeting back to Jesse but his voice had given out.  One has to speak at the top of his voice on this campus since we speak on the sidewalk of a street with heavy automobile traffic, which makes it tough on the throat.  I called upon Sister Pat, who spoke well for an hour.

I spoke again from 3-5 PM.  As has been the case in Louisiana and Texas, the ability to live victoriously over sin was the main issue again.  One fellow who attends a large church in Austin informed me his church was called Acts 29.  He said, "The church is a hospital for sick people."  I heard this yesterday at TSU; the more I hear this characterization, the more it infuriates me.   The Church is the Body of Christ.  Jesus is the head of the church.  We Christians are his body.  How can Christ's body be diseased with sin?  We believers are filled with the Holy Spirit.  We are to be storming the gates of Hell.  We are not weak and sick; we are strong and mighty.  We are a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people.  We are the army of God!  Hospital for sick people? Balderdash!

Sadly, most churches envision themselves as hospitals.  It would not be so bad if these churches had pastor surgeons who would eradicate sin from the body.  But ultimately most believe there is no cure for the power of sin in this life.  Their Savior from sin is not Jesus; their savior is physical death, which is no savior at all.  They call themselves Acts 29 as though they are carrying on into the present the wonderful Acts of the Apostles.  What a farce!  Where in Acts is the Church represented as a hospital for sick people?  So many go to the hospital today only to die.  I fear that is the problem in too many churches, people go there and die.  The Church is to be going to the world and bring a message of salvation, redemption, and victory over sin, the devil, the world and death.

'Mid toil and tribulation,
And tumult of her war,
She waits the consummation
Of peace forevermore;
Till, with the vision glorious,
Her longing eyes are blest,
And the great Church victorious
Shall be the Church at rest.

I thought I waxed eloquent today in "earnestly contending for the faith which was once delivered onto the saints"-saints, not sinners.

Dave and Doris spent their final day with us for a while.  Jesse went back to Lindale, TX.  Now there are just three of us, Sister Pat, myself and the Holy Ghost.  Not to mention the angelic host who watches over us daily in our armed conflict with the forces of the Evil One.

Bro. Dave and Sis. Doris are great at handling the authorities.

I received the following FB message from Matt Woolbright of Texas A&M, "Week two went well for the Bible study! I have a group of about 15 that are really chasing after righteousness and it started with your visit!"

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

February 10, 2012, University of Texas

We missed the noon break because we got caught up in traffic.  Sister Pat held the YOU DESERVE HELL sign, while I waited for the next break.  Two girls from one of the Christian ministries spent a considerable amount of time objecting to Pat, "Your sign will turn people off."  Two Christian men from another ministry were walking around campus praying.  They inquired concerning my mission.  One seemed receptive and agreeable; the other was skeptical of confrontational evangelism.  He repeatedly said, "We must show love."  I answered, "We show love by exposing the exceeding sinfulness of sin."

At the 12:50 break the Holy Spirit drew about 20 students into my web.  The crowd remained around that number for most of the afternoon.  The girl who threw coffee on me yesterday stopped to listen to Sister Pat about 2 PM and stayed for most of the rest of the afternoon.  Sister Pat said the girl was very disrespectful calling her an "old lady."  Later the girl gathered around my audience.  She said, "I read your blog.  You lied.  You said I threw hot coffee on you.  It was not hot; it was three hours old."

"We show love by exposing the exceeding sinfulness of sin," Bro. Jed

I answered, "I assumed that it was hot.  It landed on my clothes.  Why would someone hold a half cup of coffee for three hours?"

Anyway, I was glad that the girl returned.  She seems very hardened.  However, I am encouraged that she read my FB report and that she has spent several hours listening to the Word of the Lord the last two days.  She will never forget these two days.

One polite atheist had been listening a lot.  He commended me for my "civility."  He did not try very hard to refute my arguments for God's existence or my justification of God's rules and boundaries.  I could see on his countenance and on a number other faces today that he and others were deeply pondering my teachings.

Lauren introduced herself to me as a Catholic missionary.  She held a copy of Who Will Rise Up?, which I had given her when she was a student at the University of Nebraska.  She soon got caught up in a conversation with an extreme legalist.  I could tell that she was a very wise girl by the way she handled this confused man.

A fellow, who claims to be a homosexual virgin, whom I challenged yesterday, returned today.  I repeatedly have been explaining to him that he is not a homosexual but that he is a man who has perverted sexual fantasies.  He expressed disappointment that the crowd was not as large as yesterday.  He asked, "Do you want me to go get some of my queer friends?"

Some were deeply pondering the teachings.

I encouraged him to do so.  Later I saw him in Sister Pat's group.  I do not know how many queers he brought back.  I am sure he found no difficulty finding some at UT.

Holiness again was an issue.  I do not remember it being so big of an issue in years past at UT.  A girl argued with me that we Christians are no better than anyone else.  I frequently hear this argument coming from professing believers.   Though they speak of the new birth, they do understand that the new birth is a transformation of a man's character.  They see grace as a license to sin with impunity instead of the divine influence upon the hearts which brings salvation from the power and dominion of sin.  I liked Rachelle Chandler's comment on my FB wall today, "If we preach that there is no difference between Christians and non-Christians, why should anyone even think of becoming a Christian?"

Westward ho! To New Mexico State and Arizona next week.
