The Massachusetts apple crop is ready for harvest earlier than usual this year. Throughout New England, apples are ready to harvest about 10 days earlier than usual and well ahead of Labor Day, the traditional start of the picking season.
According to harvesters, wait until October, they say, and you may be out of luck.

Bear Swamp Orchard, a certified organic apple farm in the Berkshires. Might be a fun day trip.

We are excited to announce the return of our Toy Testers Group and Literacy Classes! See below for more details.

Leap Into Literacy Classes Resume October 3rd
Leap Into Literacy is a program designed to foster the development of essential literacy skills necessary for future reading success. Your child will build these fundamental skills in a developmentally appropriate manner through engaging and fun activities, with the ultimate goal of creating a life long goal of reading and learning.
"Little Leapers" will hop into books filled with rich language where sounds abound and story characters and words come to life. Your child will play with sounds through music, lyrical language and a variety of rhyming activities and games.
Each class includes books centered on the theme, music and/or poetry related to theme, hands-on skill building literacy activity, "creation" based on theme (craft), take home game and newsletter.
Classes are Wednesdays from 1:30pm to 2:30pm starting October 3rd through November 7th.
Cost is $120.00 for the 6 week session (includes materials and keep at home games.) 60 Minute drop-off class limited to 6 students.
Leslie Burton is an educator whose goal is to cultivate a love of reading and learning in children. Based on her experience as a first grade teacher as well as her work as an elementary school and district reading specialist, she continually strives to find engaging methods to instruct children in the essential skills necessary for future reading success.
As a reading specialist, Leslie provided professional development training for teachers in the area of best literacy practices and assessment. She has also led parent workshops focusing on current reading research and strategies to support literacy at home. Leap into Literacy is a result of Leslieʼs desire to share to with children and their families motivating and fun methods to build literacy skills that will serve as a foundation for learning.
Toy Testers Group is back!!!
Starting Thursday, October 4th
Looking for a unique way to build on your child's social skills abilities? Why not try our Rock paper Scissors Toy Testers Group.
Groups run 8 weeks from October 4th to November 29th (skipping November 22 for Thanksgiving)
Pre-K (3 and 4 year olds) 10 to 10:45
3rd to 5th graders from 3:15 to 4:15
1st to 2nd graders from 4:30 to 5:30
This special group will be led by Heather Fahey M.Ed, LCSW. Heather Fahey has spent the past 16 years working in special education and mental health. She holds a M.Ed in special education from the University of Florida and a MSW from Boston University.
The curriculum of the group will be age appropriate and designed around the needs of the individuals in the group. Possible topics may include:
- Making and keeping friends
- Identifying and managing anger
- Identifying and managing anxiety
- Respecting others
- Cooperation and being a team player
Cost of each group is $160. Applications for the group are available at the store. They are due back by September 28th. To sign up, please fill out the application available at the store and bring it back to the store with payment. Call 781.452.7376 with any questions.
