Sponsorship Program

New and Expanded

I really, really like our Sponsorship Program!

Sponsors benefit as they get a personal and tangible connection to the child they support.  The homes benefit as the Sponsors provide consistent monthly cash flow.  You can imagine my excitement when someone suggested an expanded program.

The current program has only the $30 per month support level.  The new expanded program recognizes that Sponsors might want to provide support at a different level, or they might want to provide a particular aspect of supporting a child or the home as a whole.  There might be a few Sponsors who can provide support in a very significant way through a business they own or through charitable giving programs administered by their employer.

The expanded program has five giving levels, ranging from $30 to $500 per month.  Two levels support a specific child, one level supports one of the children's caregivers, and one level maintains a house they live in.  A fifth level that we call Sponsor-a-Day provides all the resources necessary to operate one of the missions for a day each month (We suggest the date of the Sponsor's birth.)  The support levels approximate the actual cost of each designated aspect of support which vary from time-to-time and between the Guatemala and Costa Rica missions.

In return, the Sponsor will receive a bio of their child or description of the house, as well as periodic pictures or group pictures and updates as well as crafts made by their child.  The frequency of feedback will depend on the ability of the staff, missions teams, and the Volunteer Support Team to respond.

To learn more, please check out the Expanded Sponsorship Program on the sidebar and prayerfully consider participating as a new Sponsor or increasing your support level as a current Sponsor.  As you consider how you'll participate, consider that the financial need right now is much greater in Costa Rica.  But also consider that children at the home in Guatemala are typically long-term residents, so the Sponsor-child relationship could go on for many years until the child turns 18.  In Costa Rica, the children typically live at the home for several months to a couple years until they return to their families or a placed for adoption, so the child being sponsored could change from time-to-time.

To begin or increase your Sponsorship, go to Donate Online or Donate by Mail on the sidebar to make your first payment.  With either method, tell us what Sponsorship level you've chosen and which country's mission you want to support. We'll respond with the details of your sponsorship as soon as possible.

Imagine choosing Sponsor-a-Day, having the entire mission praying for you on your day each month, and on your birthday learning what happened at the mission that day and knowing that the children sang Happy Birthday to you!

I'm praying for 50 new or increased sponsorships.

Costa Rica Financial Update:

The Perfect Financial Storm

I want to give you an update on the difficult financial situation at the Home in Costa Rica.  In last month's newsletter, I shared that an unexpected perfect financial storm in 2010 had depleted financial reserves to near zero. Over the last 17 months, expenses are up dramatically because of new Costa Rican government mandates and income in Costa Rican currency is down dramatically because of the economic situation in the U.S. The upshot was that we needed an extra $12,000 to make it through June when mission teams begin to come.

I am happy to tell you that a 50% increase in general sponsorships and giving together with one very generous gift has taken a God-sized chunk out of the total need.  But as I write this, we still need an extra $4,000 to make it through June.

If you were able to help, thank you from deep down in my heart.  If not, I again ask you to consider a generous extra gift to the Costa Rica mission.  I am praying that the Lord will supply through you our Cherished Partner in this ministry.
