The Next Stop News |
September, 2012 | |
|
Dear Friends of The Next Stop,
The Next Stop celebrates its 5th birthday this month! We opened on September 5, 2007, with a total of 10 members --2 of them ours! Currently, The Next Stop has 58 active members, but has served 95 over these past 5 years. A lot has been learned and accomplished through this journey, with the most important result being the positive impact felt by our members and their families. Thanks for being on this journey with us!

Super Bowl Raffle is Back!
Would you and a guest like a chance to go to the Super Bowl in New Orleans on February 3, 2013? AND have $2500 to take with you?!
How: go to www.thenextstop.org There you can purchase tickets and find all the details about this raffle.
Why: Besides the great prize, your ticket purchase(s) help The Next Stop continue to provide a place where our members can interact with others and practice appropriate social skills, have opportunities to increase their confidence and feel satisfied through successes and experiences, and continue to learn and explore in a stimulating, fun environment. At the end of the day, they go home to their family or caregiver having experienced a rewarding afternoon!
Thank you in advance for supporting these efforts by participating in this raffle!

Gwinnett Braves Recognition Night
As previously reported, The Next Stop had a Recognition Night at the Gwinnett Braves game on July 25th. Being a grant recipient in December, 2011, earned us this opportunity. The Gwinnett Braves provided us 50 free tickets, and The Next Stop provided the rest for a total of 120 people attending the game and supporting The Next Stop! Some of our members had the chance to participate in the between innings games and we were presented a "big check" on the field.

A Taste of
The Next Stop
October 19, 2012
To show our appreciation for all the support of The Next Stop, The Next Stop is hosting A Taste of The Next Stop. This event will include a lasagna dinner prepared by our members, live music, dancing and more.
The doors will open at 6:30, and dinner will be served at 7:00. Cost is $10 per person, no cost for our members or our volunteers.
This event is NOT a fundraiser--it is a "thank you" to our supporters and an opportunity to introduce The Next Stop to our community. Please consider enjoying this evening with us and invite your friends and family!
More information to come soon! |

A Member's Memo....
by Justin
"I am 28 years old. I live at home with my mom and stepdad. I am working at Publix. I have worked there for 5 years. I like to watch UGA and Clemson football on Saturday. I also like watching the news.
I like going to The Next Stop to cook and make new friends and play games and see my friends and doing new things. I like to see my girlfriend."

This and That
Family night at the Gwinnett Braves game was planned for June 30th. Most of us showed up, and gave it our best. However, the temperature was 106 that day!
The Next Stop enjoyed 8 weeks of Friday bowling at Oasis Bowling Center during the summer. This social opportunity provides another setting for interaction, accomplishment and fun!
Several pieces of adaptive kitchen equipment was purchased over the summer to assist members in different tasks they are involved in. Cutting boards that hold food in place while you cut with one hand helps get the job done!

We are happy to welcome new volunteers Jean, Jenny, Cristina AND our high school intern Mary. Each of them is a great complement to our team!
We also welcome Brenau OT students Olivia, Danielle and Sundas who will be joining us on Thursdays through December. A big thank you to our summer Brenau OT students--Stacy, Liz, Hannah, Meredith and Jenna! We appreciate all you brought to The Next Stop and wish you good luck as you pursue your careers. |
