Dear Friend of MHA,

As you know, MHAAC has been slowly reinventing itself over the past year. Because of our perseverance and commitment, we were presented a huge honor last month...SC's Affiliate of the Year. Achieving success as an affiliate of the National Mental Health America by being awarded the "Affiliate of the Year Award for South Carolina" definitely validates our motto, "Never Give Up!".

We wish to thank each and every contributing partner from our Aiken community, as well as the surrounding areas, for the support that you all so generously extend to our agency. We are appreciative of your continued collaboration with us in advocating for those diagnosed with a mental illness, in providing shelter to many homeless families through Nurture Home, in preventing both depression & suicide, and in providing services to new parents with our Welcome Baby program.

  Aiken's Cookin' Partners Provide Success!

Aiken's Cookin' with Celebrity Chefs, our 12th annual fund-raiser was a huge success! Because of additional sponsorships, chef teams, and Beyond the Bash silent auction donated goods  we're thrilled to share that this year's event was the most successful to date. We are especially appreciative of all of the partnering sponsors & chefs who continue to consistently offer not only their financial commitment, but their time & creative talents!

This event required many weeks of dedicated planning and hard work, all orchestrated  by
our  board president, Liz Neal. The 100% participation   from all of the members of our Board of Directors (and even some of our former BOD members and their spouses) were key to our success. This year, as a result of all of their collaborative efforts, our sponsorships  increased to a total of 29 and our chef teams were increased to 27. Beyond the Bash, our silent auction, offered a total of 30 items that were auctioned off, which is more than ever. Ultimately the dedication of all those involved, both new and old, resulted in the evening of fun and funds raised!

Once more...to our sponsors, our chefs, our donors and certainly to all who attended our event, thank you!

When one door closes...

Sometimes it seems as though we take one step forward...only to slide back two, anyone in the non-profit sector knows this only too well. Our agency has suffered the loss of one of our main funding sources for Nurture Home. Grant funding we've received for many years which was used to pay utility bills, purchase supplies, and maintain the shelter, was denied this year. At the same time, Nurture Home and our unique approach to helping young families has received a great deal of positive attention and interest in the past few months. We continue to search for additional sources of funding to help bridge the gap of this recent loss because we know the changes we are helping these women make are critical. If you'd like to know more about Nurture Home or any of our other programs, just give me a call to arrange a tour!

"When one door closes, another one opens"  ...perhaps one of you can help lead us to that   door?

Grateful for your support!
