February - Focus on Fiber
In this issue TriNet Communications introduces you to a new product from TE Connectivity which dramatically increases the capacity of fiber. Check out their Compact CWDM below.
We also address the extremely common problem of dirty or scratched fiber connectors with two great products from AFL Noyes - the OFL300 Optics Scope and their line of "One-Click Cleaners."
Continuing with our fiber theme, we also feature Bend Insensitive Fiber Jumpers.
To keep abreast of news as well as where you may find us throughout the month, please be sure to "like" us on Facebook using the button at the top of our webpage here.
Over the next month you can find us from Alaska to Florida, with one very special event with our friends at brighthouse NETWORKS on March 28th! Check out the Events section for details.
Rounding out our focus on fiber, this months "Etc" includes a discussion about polar bears - yes, you read that right...

Featured Product
Compact CWDM (CCWDM)
TE Connectivity (TE) compact CWDM module provides increased bandwidth and capacity for future network growth in one of the industry's smallest packages. It's compact size and unique carrier tray set it apart, making it easier to deply in a variety of field situations.
The compact CWDM is available in 4- or 8-channel configurations and can be installed in the field or in the factory. The module comes with a carrier that allows for a fast and easy snap-in mounting to any TE splice tray or closure and can also be installed in most non-TE closures without using the carrier. |

Reduce Network Problems: Optics Scope and One-Click Cleaners from AFL Noyes
A large percentage of network failures are caused by dirty or damaged end-faces on fiber optic connectors. Inspecting jumper end-faces prior to connection is critical to network performance. The OFS300 scope provides a quality optical inspection tool at an affordable price.
Designed for field use, with lab quality optics, the OFS300 inspection scope delivers a high quality end-face image at 200x magnification. Quickly identify scratches, dirt or other problems normally associated with poor network performance.
 | | One-Click Cleaner In Use |
The One-Click Cleaner is an easy-to-use option for cleaning connectors on jumpers and in adapters. Simply insert the One-Click Cleaner into an adapter and push until an audible "click" is heard. The One-Click Cleaner uses the mechanical push action to advance an optical grade cleaning tape while the cleaning tip is rotated to ensure the fiber end-face is effectively, but gently cleaned. The One-Click Cleaner is a must-have for field technicians. Small enough to fit in a shirt pocket and a great addition to cleaning kits. Save your wrist - no more twist!

Bend Insensitive Fiber (BIF)
More and more we are seeing requests from customers for jumpers constructed of Bend Insensitive Fiber (BIF). This remarkable fiber allows for tighter bending radii without significant loss of signal. A good brief but thorough explanation of BIF may be found on the website of the Fiber Optic Association, Inc. You may read about this fiber by clicking here.
TriNet Communications carries a wide selection of Bend Insensitive Fiber Jumpers from a variety of manufacturers such as All Systems Broadband, AFL, and others. |

Fiber Myths What in the world does a Polar Bear have to do with Fiber Optics? Apparently for a long time, it was thought that the fur of the bear has fiber optic qualities to help it keep warm. This blog entry exposes the truth with some linkages to scientific research. Indeed fiber optics has become a common technology in many facets of everyday life. Despite this, myths perpetuate. Although over a decade old, this publication examines many of the myths that we may still hear today, including:
- How Fragile is Fiber
- Does glass "flow" over time?
- Will cracks propagate in fiber as the result of a cable cut?
- and many more...

It is with great sadness we report the loss of one of the TriNet family. Frances Dellinger, recent Sales Manager in our Southwest Territory, passed away on February 10, 2012. She will be missed. |
