Greetings!

Thanks for your support of the Milwaukee Childhood Obesity Prevention Project (MCOPP). The intention of this newsletter is to provide information to our supporters between our monthly Leadership Team meetings which occur the first Tuesday of each month at rotating locations.

MCOPP is an inclusive coalition with the goal of reducing childhood obesity in Milwaukee through environmental and policy improvements and changes that promote healthy eating and active living.

Our members include leaders and staff from the eight member centers of the United Neighborhood Centers of Milwaukee (UNCOM), community residents, partners from youth-serving organizations, specialists in the fields of nutrition, exercise science, physical education, public health, medicine, urban planning, and others.

We invite you to join us in our mission of working together for healthy eating and active living. We envision a Milwaukee with reduced childhood obesity where the healthy choice is the easy choice.

MCOPP Areas of Focus

Healthy Foods and Beverages

Working towards healthier food and beverage options in vending machines, at meetings, for snacks, at community meal programs, and in other areas identified by our partners.

Land Use

Promoting the use of agency land and facilities and surrounding land in ways that contribute to healthy eating and active living (for example, community gardens, marked walking and biking routes, and safe routes to school partnerships)

Active Living

Striving for quality physical activity and decreased sedentary behavior for all youth who attend after-school programs. Working towards worksite wellness policies and programs that encourage staff to be role models for healthy eating and active living.

Curriculum and Professional
Development

Identifying appropriate healthy eating and active living curricula for youth-serving staff to use with youth. Creating a comprehensive, sustained and systematic professional development approach to improve staff skills and knowledge about healthy eating and active living.

Thanks for your support of the Milwaukee Childhood Obesity Prevention Project.
