| Galveston Rotary Crawfish Boil-Sunday, April 17 | |
On Sunday, April 17th, the Rotary Club of Galveston will host the first-ever Galveston Rotary Crawfish Boil. Set for 12 noon-5pm, this fun, family fundraising event will be held at Moody Gardens - in the Big Tent near the Discovery Pyramid. What a perfect venue for families and friends to get together to not only enjoy great food and fellowship in incredibly relaxing and beautiful surroundings, but to know that all proceeds from this new event will benefit the Galveston community and its many vital community projects and programs.
The Lighthouse Charity Cooking Team -under the direction of Dick and Horacene Daugird and their superb crew - will be preparing delicious Cajun-seasoned crawfish, potatoes, corn and onions, as well as hot dogs, red beans and rice -plus a generous contribution of TABASCO®factory pepper mash from a donor in Louisiana promises the perfect lagniappe for the seasoning. Iced-cold beer, water and soft drinks will complete the menu. Entertainment for the afternoon will be headlined by Lady "D" and the Zydeco Tornadoes. Youngsters can look forward to lots of fun activities on the playground near the Big Tent.
The Rotary Club of Galveston was founded in 1913 and was the 73rd club in the world chartered by Rotary International. Our membership subscribes to the motto "Service Above Self", in addition to supporting this year's Rotary theme: "Building Communities... Bridging Continents." And we believe this new fundraising event is just one more example of our club (over 110 members-strong) working together to make Galveston an even better and more viable place to live, work, and play. Right now, funds that are generated from this new project, as well as from our annual Chili Supper (now in its 35th year) will be distributed through our club's Galveston Rotary Foundation, Inc. Over the past year, more than $25,000 was granted to organizations in Galveston dedicated to improving our local community's health, education, and welfare. Non-profit groups receiving donations included Galveston West Isle Little League and Galveston Lassie League, Ball High School, O'Connell College Preparatory, Galveston Youth Leadership Award Program, Galveston Fire Department, Salvation Army, Artist's Boat, The Grand Kids Festival, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Galveston Island Meals on Wheels.
Of course, without our generous sponsors, this event would not have been possible. To date, in addition to the Rotary Club of Galveston, a veryspecial thank you is extended to the Galveston Chamber of Commerce, Moody Gardens, Texas Lighthouse Foundation, Del Papa Distributing, the Galveston Restaurant Group, Galveston.com and company, Chalmers Hardware andEmbroidery, Joe Tramonte Realty, Inc.; DSW Homes, LLC; PDG Harold and Joan Fattig, Law Firm of Mills Shirley, The Raschke Family, Right at Home, Mallot Chiropractic, Nathan Insurance Agency, Edward Jones - Randy Klibert, Carnes Brothers Funeral Home, Odyssey Academy, and The Livanec Family.
My co-chair, Fred Raschke, and I, along with our great committee of Rotarians - John Zendt, Keith Bassett , VJ Tramonte, Gina Spagnola, Johnny Smecca, Bill Ansell, Mary Brechtel, and Sheryl Green, as well as other enthusiastic committee members - Martha Livanec, Lee Kinard, Ted Farmer, Craig Janek, and Darren Seigel - urge everyone to come out and enjoy a super Sunday afternoon on April 17th of scrumptious food, fun entertainment, and great fellowship.
Tickets are $20 in advance and can be purchased online at www.galveston.com/crawfish or at the Galveston Chamber of Commerce, 519 25th Street. Tickets purchased day of event are $25. For more information, please call the Chamber at 409.763.5326 or Martha Livanec at 409.256.7238. Look forward to seeing you on the 17th! |

| Chamber Member Spotlight - Bailey & Galyen Attorneys at Law | | |
At Bailey & Galyen, we believe that you should be able to have one law firm handle all of your consumer legal needs. We also recognize that in order to remain highly proficient and skilled, attorneys should concentrate their practice in a limited number of areas. In order to best serve the wide range of legal needs in our community, we have formed a team of attorneys and staff, each specializing in a few legal fields, allowing the firm to handle matters in nearly every area of the law. We have more than 30 attorneys and over 90 staff in our offices throughout Texas. Our primary office serving Galveston County is strategically located in the Clear Lake area to allow our attorneys easy access to the courts in Galveston, Harris, and Brazoria counties. The attorneys in our Clear Lake area office concentrate in the following practice areas: litigation for injuries and death, class actions, wills, tax matters, family law such as divorce and child custody, bankruptcy, and defending those accused of illegal activity. We also maintain office space in Galveston and can meet you there by appointment. Our clients appreciate access to our large firm resources without having to drive into downtown Houston. Whatever your legal concern might be, ask who on our Bailey & Galyen team can help you.
