We are out of the dark early bird classes and into the light of May! Its a gorgeous time of year here on Vancouver Island isn't it? The blossoms, the trees and the vibrancy in the colours of nature. Everyone is coming out for yoga to get and stay in shape for summer. The vibe is great at the studio! The Yogathon was a roaring success and our 30 Day Challenge is underway!

Thank you in advance for taking a few minutes to check out our newsletter. To the left you can see what's in this issue and also 'Quick Links' take you to interesting articles, events and information.

Enjoy the sun's loving warmth and we'll see you in the hot room soon...

"It's the action, not the fruit of the action, that's important. You have to do the right thing. It may not be in your power, may not be in your time, that there will be any fruit. But that doesn't mean you stop doing the right thing. You may never know what results come from your action. But if you do nothing, there will be no result."

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (1869-1948)

Six months of unlimited yoga for just $20 a week including the tax! Both options can be split into two payments. Stay at home in your body through the warmer months of the year - for less!
ends May 31st

Carrie Bell requested that this be shared with you guys. She is at TT right now. Rajashree Choudhury read it aloud to them the other day. It is thought provoking. Enjoy!

The Invitation

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love for your dream for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon...I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow if you have been opened by life's betrayals or have become shrivelled and closed from fear of further pain.  I want to know if you can sit with pain
mine or your own without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it.  I want to know if you can be with joy mine or your own if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful to be realistic to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself. If you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul. If you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.  I want to know if you can see Beauty even when it is not pretty every day. And if you can source your own life from its presence.  I want to know if you can live with failure yours and mine and still stand at the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon,"Yes."

It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair weary and bruised to the bone and do what needs to be done to feed the children.

It doesn't interest me who you know or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away. I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

30 day challenge

           May 12th - June 10th

"When we choose daily practice, when we commit to shed the blinders and face the naked truth day after day, we are choosing to care for ourselves, to do what is right for us no matter what.  In this sense, the practice itself is an expression of unconditional love, something that can be difficult to understand and even more difficult to access in our lives.  But daily practice makes it easier.

why take class in summer

Top 10 Reasons to stick with Bikram Yoga this Summer

source: Bikram Yoga Vancouver website

As the weather warms up it can be tempting to skip the studio to get your daily dose of heat outside instead. But stepping up your practice during the summer months can actually reap amazing rewards - benefits that aren't available in winter. Here are some of the best reasons to maintain (and maximize!) your Bikram Yoga routine this summer!

1. Bikram Yoga, practised in heat and humidity, can help you acclimate to the season's warmth by "teaching" your body to cool itself more efficiently and effectively through sweat. It also arms you with coping tools (focus, concentration and deep breathing) to help you better manager when summertime temperatures reach unbearable heights.

2. It works the other way around, too. When the yoga room feels cooler than the great outdoors, practising becomes a cakewalk! With a body (muscles, joints and ligaments) that's already nice and warm when you enter the studio, you'll likely find you're more flexible and can go deeper into the postures during the summer.

3. Bikram Yoga encourages you to stay well hydrated by keeping on top of your water intake and replenishing your electrolytes regularly. During the hot summer months this can be a boon outside the hot room, too!

4. Warmer weather often translates into a lighter appetite, which in turn means you're less inclined to scarf down a steak or polish off a big bowl of chili right before class. This can take your Bikram Yoga practice to a new level by relieving you of that "full" feeling and letting you go much deeper into the postures.

5. The summer heat can make you feel stifled and sluggish; Bikram Yoga is a great way to fill your tank with energy by increasing your oxygen intake and balancing the various systems of the body.

6. Bikram Yoga is a great physical workout, burning a plethora of calories per 90-minute class and buffing your bod in all the right places. You'll look great and feel more comfortable and confident in your skin - not to mention swimsuit - all summer long!

7. Unlike winter, when people like to hibernate at home, summertime means patios and parties - lots and lots of patios and parties. Make sure you sweat all those extra toxins out of your system by committing to regular stints in the hot room!

8. Summertime is your time - what better way to spend it than by focusing on your health and wellbeing and fitting in plenty of "me" moments with daily Bikram Yoga sessions that force you to forget about everything else and focus solely on you?

9. Planning on swimming, hiking, sailing, biking, jogging, beach volleyball-ing and doing any number of other fun summertime sports? Bikram Yoga will give you the athletic upper hand no matter what outdoor activity you choose, increasing your strength, stamina, balance and co-ordination.

10. We're not saying you shouldn't come to class this summer BUT, with more students planning out-of-town vacations this season you may just wind up in several intimate classes, where the teacher's able to devote some extra personal TLC to a smaller group of students. This can really benefit your practice, allowing you to soak up more knowledge and ask all your burning questions

before and after class!
