Happenings!

We have had a great year at Brookwood Elementary!

Dear Parents,

We have had a great year at Brookwood Elementary! Thank you so much for all of your support through volunteering, fundraising, attending conferences, and working with your children! We recently received our Grade 5 Writing Test results and 97% of our students passed with 49% of them scoring in Exceeds. We also received our CRCT results for our 3rd - 5th graders and our students did great! 99% of our students passed all required parts of the CRCT. 60-82% of our students scored in the Exceeds range on the assessments. We are very proud! We did not receive the individual score reports yet to send home. However, you can see your child's CRCT scores in the Parent Portal.

In the fall, our 1st, 3rd and 5th grade students took the Cognitive Abilities Test. The company that scores them has relooked at the scoring process and did adjust some student scores. So, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade parents received a corrected score report from the CogAt in your report card envelope. This is actually the first time we have received score reports to send home for this assessment. Previously you had received a letter with your child's stanine scores from 1-10.

I look forward to seeing you back at Meet Your Teacher Day on August 2. It will be here before we know it. I am already busy with plans for next year and I am excited about the great things our students and teachers will accomplish!

I hope you all have a great summer with your families! I am planning on lots of time with my five grandsons!

Thank you so much for sharing your children with us! Thank you also for being so supportive of us!

Sincerely,

Karen Head

You Can Help!

We are launching a campaign to raise money to replace our gym floor. We want a floor that will be safer for our students and will not require constant replacement of defective tiles. Our goal is to raise $40,000 and we need your help!

If you or your business would like to donate towards our gym floor fund, please make your checks out to Brookwood Elementary and drop them by the office any Monday through Thursday this summer.

You can also ask your friends who own businesses to make a donation to this cause!

We are going to put up a display in the gym showcasing our most generous donors at different levels.

  • GOLD LEVEL SPONSORS - Donations greater than $500
  • BURGUNDY LEVEL SPONSORS - Donations of $250 - $500
  •  WHITE LEVEL SPONSORS - Donations of $100 - $249

Summer Information
News From Barb Heck - PE

This school year, your child participated in the FITNESSGRAM fitness assessment. A partnership including the Georgia Department of Education and the Georgia Department of Public Health, FITNESSGRAM helps us understand the fitness level of every student in grades 1st through 12th enrolled in a physical education (PE) class. The FITNESSGRAM activities are fun and safe and are not tests or competition between students.

The FITNESSGRAM provides an explanation of your child's fitness level with suggestions of how you can plan daily exercises and proper nutrition to enhance your child's health. You will be emailed a confidential FITNESSGRAM report with your child's scores. Attached is an example of a FITNESSGRAM. It gives information about each section and how to understand your child's results. In Gwinnett County Public Schools, your child's Physical Education teacher will be focused on aerobic capacity, muscular strength and endurance. Body Mass Index (BMI) is needed to calculate aerobic capacity. Please understand that the number associated with BMI does not reflect that person's percent body fat.  See the example pdf attached. Brookwood Community School

"Brookwood High School's stadium field is undergoing extensive renovation this summer. This is our first field renovation since the field was formed out of a hillside 25 years ago. Because of the construction, use of heavy equipment, hauling of dirt, growing time, and field maintenance, both the field and the track are closed until the start of school. We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause the community members that use the track all summer for exercise. We would like everyone to be safe and free of possible injury. Thank you. "

Education City

educcityThis is an online software program (www.educationcity.com) that targets Georgia learning standards in the areas of Math, Language Arts, and Science. Students work on creative activities that teach them needed academic strands at the same time. The children love this software! Home licenses usually cost around $75 for a year but through Brookwood Elementary you can purchase a home license for $10 for one child plus $5 for each additional child in the same family. To sign up, print the attached form and send it in with your payment. Educ City pdf
