IncMagazine_TopSmallCompaniesGetting external recognition for your people, work and results is one way to reinforce your organization's reputation.  That's why I'm proud that Linhart PR has been named a finalist for two awards. Out of nearly 350 companies from all different industries, we were selected among the best for our employee and workplace practices in the national 2011 Top Small Company Workplaces awards sponsored by Inc. Magazine and Winning Workplaces.  Winners will be named this summer and profiled in Inc. Magazine. We're also a finalist for Small Business of the Year from the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce.  Winners will be announced in May.

3 IDEAS THAT COULD HELP YOUR ORGANIZATION

17 professional skills that really count.  Advancing your education is great.  Seminars, webinars, night classes and books can give you tactical skills and ideas to improve your performance.  But what skills are most relevant to success in today's competitive workplace?  It's not always what you might think.

2Social media discomfort - when to stop and when to keep going. It's tempting to stop (or never start) using social media when you're getting battered with negative comments on your Facebook wall or taken to task on your corporate blog for customer service missteps.  But, if you push through the discomfort, you may discover hidden business benefits.

3Tell your story through the power of video.  Online video consumption continues to rise, with Americans watching 45 percent more video online in 2010 than the year before, according to a new Nielsen report.  To meet people where they're getting information, companies should be tapping into YouTube, the world's second largest search engine.  To produce effective online videos: 1) Do your research - pick topics that are already being searched online; 2) Create a call to action; 3) Make videos easy to find and share.

INSIGHTS AND OUTCOMES

Southwest AirlinesSouthwest Airlines: Building a Community Presence To Drive Customer Loyalty

Southwest Airlines is renowned for its legendary customer service. But how do you take that signature spirit beyond the aircraft and into the community to capture the hearts and minds of travelers?  Last year, Southwest Airlines partnered with Linhart PR to take its "LUV" to the streets in the fast-growing, competitive Denver market.

As a complement to its "Dedicated to Denver" advertising campaign, Linhart PR helpedSouthwest Porch at Skyline Park Southwest create an experiential PR program with the Southwest Porch at Skyline Park, an outdoor lounge along the busy 16th Street pedestrian mall in downtown Denver. The Porch features food and beverages from several Denver businesses, offering passersby and visitors a place for casual dining and relaxation - and a chance to experience Southwest's hospitality firsthand. This winter, the adjacent Southwest Rink at Skyline Park attracted more than 30,000 guests for free outdoor ice skating.

Through reputation management, community outreach and media relations, Linhart PR helped Southwest Airlines gain community mindshare, customer loyalty and build its Colorado presence with a high-impact, high-touch experience.

SPEAK YOUR MIND

Last quarter, we asked who you think should manage digital media within an organization: 71% said public relations; 39% said a cross-functional team.  This quarter, we want your opinion on another organizational topic related to a recent South by Southwest conference panel ("The Legal Ramifications of Saying I'm Sorry") led by our Digital Media Leader Paula Berg.

What barriers have you faced in establishing a social media presence in your organization?

To help celebrate Linhart PR's 15th anniversary this year, we're hosting a Paths To Leadership speaker series for our team members to meet and learn from local and national business leaders. Our first session featured Jane Miller, CEO of Rudi's Organic Bakery. We captured her inspiring insights on video for everyone to enjoy.
