SPRING HAS SPRUNG!
Yes, even in Florida there are subtle seasonal changes.
Insect activity definitely increases in the spring. This is also the time homeowners look for a greener, healthier, weed-free lawn.
We all want the most thriving lawn on the block. This takes team effort, including fertilization, proper watering, mowing, insect and disease control. Now is a good time to let us evaluate the condition of your turf, trees and shrubs.
THE ACORN EPIDEMIC?
In this business I have had many unusual questions, a few customers have asked me a question this past winter; are there more acorns and seeds falling from the trees this year than normal?
Well apparently there are. I was talking to our consulting entomologist in February and mentioned about my customers thinking that there were more acorns falling this year and how crazy that seems.
Apparently it's not! He went into a discussion about the cycle that most plants go through in an effort to reseed.
Their seed output remains level for a number of years and because scavengers like squirrels take most of them before they can actually germinate, plants put out a large number every few years to ensure that some of the seeds will germinate.
SPRINKLER CHECK
It's that time of year again, warmer weather and very little rain. Rainy season in Florida begins late May and June.
If your lawn has brown spots it could be an insect problem, but please check your sprinklers also. Even the best sprinkler system is no match for Mother Nature.
