The
rainy season that normally begins by June has not yet arrived. I write these newsletters each month and by
the middle of July we could have begun the rainy season.
A
common misconception is that our sprinkler systems, which worked fine
previously, cannot possibly be the cause of brown spots in the lawn. On the contrary, sprinkler systems need to be
carefully checked regularly for both coverage of turf and amount of water
disbursed. Although an irrigation system
will never duplicate the coverage of natural rainfall, checking your system
will reduce the occurrence of dry spots in your lawn.
Furthermore,
with permanent water restrictions, it is important that you water on the
correct day. Two times per week is
sufficient. Generally, half-hour per
zone will supply good coverage and keep your lawn healthy.
Unfortunately
no two soil conditions are the same.
Occasionally, we find a lawn that requires very little water, whereas
some lawns will need to be watered longer per zone.
