REGIONAL VISION SUMMIT SET FOR SEPTEMBER 28TH
Shared Upstate Growth VisionAs part of the year-long effort to Create a Shared Upstate Growth Vision, Ten at the Top will be hosting a Regional Vision Summit on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at the Carolina First Center. This event is free and open to the general public, but you are asked to register in advance beginning in mid-August.

The Regional Vision Summit will serve as an opportunity to receive an update on the feedback gathered from more than 6,000 residents during the recent Shared Growth Vision Survey. But, the primary purpose of the event is not to have participants listen to a series of presentations and speakers. Instead, much of the meeting will be spent receiving feedback from participants and having dialogue between residents, business leaders and elected officials about how they envision the future of South Carolina's Upstate.

This meeting will serve as the kickoff to the second major community outreach element of the year-long regional visioning effort. Following the Summit, 12 Community Forums will be held across the region during October and November to solicit additional input and feedback from residents about "What Matters Most" as we look toward the future of the Upstate. The full Community Forum schedule will be announced in early August.

VISIONING EFFORT LAUNCHED ALONG HIGHWAY 153 POWDERSVILLE AREA
Highway 153Recognizing the value of using public input to identify a vision for the future, the Powdersville Planning Group recently conducted a four-day design charrette to look at possibilities for the future of Highway 153 from I-185 and I-85 to Highway 123.

Led by the the design firm of Goodwin, Mills and Cawood, the charrette included input from more than 250 residents from across the area, which includes the three counties of Greenville, Pickens and Anderson.

The result was a draft vision statement and series of design ideas that will be further refined through additional community input. If you are interested in receiving a copy of the final presentation, please contact Kevin Laird from Goodwin, Mills & Cawood at 864.527.0460.

As part of the next project steps, the Powdersville Planning Group is currently applying for additional grants that will allow the process to dig deeper into the transportation plan for the entire corridor and to start creating development standards using a "compact" approach for the corridor.

The group is also planning to create an Advisory Committee made up of anyone interested in the planning process. If you are interested in participating, please contact Kevin Laird.

PRESENTATIONS HELP TATT SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT REGIONAL VISION
TATT Executive Director Dean Hybl and Chair Irv Welling prepare for a TATT presentation earlier this year.
Dean Hybl and Irv Welling
Since mid-February, Ten at the Top Executive Director Dean Hybl has spoken to more than 600 residents about Ten at the Top and the Shared Upstate Growth Vision project through a series of presentations to community groups, churches, city and county governments and local associations.

Over the next six weeks, he already has an additional half dozen presentations scheduled that will increase the total audience to more than 1,000 area residents.

If your organization, business or local government would like to hear more about the Shared Upstate Growth Vision initiative or Ten at the Top, please contact Dean Hybl at 864.283.2315 to discuss presentation opportunities.

SPARTANBURG AREA CHAMBER CREATES GREEN EVOLUTION COMMITTEE

sustainabilityBuilding on previous efforts that have been started in the Spartanburg area, the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce recently formed a Green Evolution Committee to look at how to increase awareness and opportunities for creating and enhancing sustainability efforts in the Spartanburg area.

The initial meeting included more than 30 representatives from businesses and organizations within the community.

The group plans to start by developing a directory of companies and organizations within the area that currently exhibit "green" practices that can be replicated by other organizations.

If you are interested in more information, please contact the Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce at 864.594.5000.
