From the Library Director
During this happy-but-hectic time of year, it's important to take a little time every now and then to pause and reflect on what's really important. Whether or not the house is decorated so that it looks like an interior designer was in charge, or your holiday cookies come out looking like Martha Stewart's, remember the reason that we do all this: our families and friends. Bring holiday cheer and help support reading by spending just ten minutes every day during the holidays reading a favorite story with your children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews. Stop by your nearest library and check out a book or two to share. While there, find a classic holiday movie to bring home, then pop some popcorn, and invite friends over for a holiday movie evening. Download some new music from our website. Visit the library to find cookbooks or craft books that you can use to start a few new family traditions this year. And if you're planning to give an e-book reader to someone as a gift, don't forget to slip a library card application into the box before you wrap it up. The recipient will appreciate the opportunity to download books and more from the library, free! As we wind up 2011 and look forward to 2012, the San Antonio Public Library Board of Trustees and staff wish you a very happy holiday season.

Don't forget: eReader clinics at public libraries!
It looks like eReaders will be the hot holiday gifts again in 2011. The San Antonio Public Library wants to help you get the most out of your new technology, so make plans to visit one of our e-Reader clinics scheduled from now through January!
Besides showing you how to use an eReader, our November and December clinics can offer tips to help you figure out which eReader is best for you, or the lucky person receiving a gift from you. For a list of clinic dates, times and locations, please go to our online calendar and search for keyword "eReader clinic" or pick up a printed calendar at any San Antonio Public Library location.
Don't forget that you can download books for that new eReader, free on our website! (And Kindle is now compatible with library downloads.) |
Get great bargains on books - and help the Library!
Still have holiday shopping to finish? Don't forget the Book Cellar! The Book Cellar Used Book Store on the lower level of the Central Library is operated by the Friends of the San Antonio Public Library, and proceeds from the store benefit the Library!
You'll find great bargains on books, movies and music for gifts, or just to enjoy for yourself! Or if you like to let your giftees make their own selections, gift certificates are available. Throughout the year, the Book Cellar also has special sales where the bargains are even better.
