Dear ,
Welcome to the Greater Burlington Y's new Member Newsletter!
We'll be distributing this newsletter six times per year, to coincide with our programming seasons. In addition to updating you on new classes and upcoming events, we'll be sharing our favorite health & wellness tips, healthy recipes and success stories - and will be introducing you to staff and members so you can better know your Y.
We're committed to strengthening the foundations of our community - so if, at any time, you have programming suggestions or content ideas for this newsletter, please don't hesitate to contact me. My email address is ledelson@gbymca.org.
Thank you,
Larry Edelson

Would I love a vacation, no I really need a vacation! |
One of my primary job responsibilities is conducting workshops on the many subjects of worksite wellness to Vermont businesses. It should be no surprise that excessive stress (including financial stress) consistently ranks as one of the top employee issues. Over two millennia ago Confucius stated "if you love what you do, you'll never work another day in your life." Read More... |

Healthy Recipes for your next BBQ! | |
Heading out to a summer BBQ? Most times BBQ foods are diet busting high calorie, high fat and unhealthy choices. Well, that doesn't need to be the case. Let's face it, we all need some of these delicious high calorie foods or else it just wouldn't be summer. The way to avoid a total calorie disaster is to try and balance the good with the not so good. Add a few of these healthy options to your next BBQ and you will find you can "have your cake and eat it too". Just remember, a few little substitutions can make a huge difference.

 | Keep Your Family Safe While Swimming... |
With summer nearly here, it's critical to give your family the education needed to enjoy our local pools and lakes.
A few tips to consider with warmer weather here: - Always swim with a buddy - it's more fun too!
- Spend time around the water as a family - children should always be supervised
- While boating on the lake children should always be in a life jacket
- Sun screen keeps us all safe!
For more information please consider joining the Y at Camp SPLASH - a family pool event that is designed to help kids stay safe and healthy at the beach, pool, water park and lake this summer. The entire family will enjoy safe, confident and joyful activities in and around the water during our 3 day program with an emphasis on fun, swim instruction, games and parent education. Tuesday, June 22nd - Thursday, June 24th 10am-12pm/ $20 per family for members / $40 per family for non-members. Please call 862-9622 to register.

 | Keep your family safe at the playground | The National Safety Council reports that playground injuries result in over 200,000 visits to the emergency room each year, and many of those injuries can be prevented. Whether you have a playground in your backyard, or you're visiting the local park, here are the Top 10 items to take a look for:
1. Surfaces around playground equipment should be filled with at least 12 inches of loose fill, such as wood chips, mulch, sand or pea gravel.
2. Most stationary equipment should have at least a 6 foot use zone in all directions.
