TECHNOLOGY TIP: Using Your Online Benefits 
UPDATE YOUR LISTING
People who visit www.wheatonchamber.com have already made an important decision; they are looking for a business right here in the Wheaton area. Keep your listing on the Chamber website updated.

Be inspired!
Several of your fellow Chamber members are already using all the features of the Enhanced Directory Listing. These features are available to ALL of our members! The more members who use more features the stronger our online presence will be for everyone.
Two good examples are:

How it's done:
1. Log In to Member Section
2. In the menu under Webpage Info, choose "Webpage info."
3. Check to be sure all of your webpage content information is correct
4. Add your Web Description / Text Content
  • Description- Think of this as your elevator speech. In a succinct, yet engaging way, tell the visitor what you do! (read more about this in the next section) This description will also appear in our printed directory.
  • Results Summary- This is a great place for your tag line! It will display whenever your listing appears in a visitor's search of the online directory.
  • Hours of Operation - You know what is expected here.
  • Driving Directions - Make it easier to get to you. This is a good place to mention landmarks, good parking places, one way streets etc.
NETWORKING: Making Connections     
You get one chance to make a first impression. When you introduce yourself, be ready to explain quickly, clearly and enthusiastically who you are and what you do, yet leave them wanting to know more!

What an elevator speech IS:

A compelling introduction.
A great STARTING point for conversations of all kinds,
in person and on line.

What an elevator speech is NOT:
A complete explanation of who you are, what you do, what you've done and what you are doing next.

PREPARE
1. Write out your speech and have it committed to memory.
Easier said than done.Keep in mind that your goal is to make them want to know more about you and your business. 
  • Start with listing important KEY WORDS about your business
    (you will need these next week too)
  • What sets you apart from your competition?
  • Now list some key words to describe your ideal customer
  • What problem do you solve for you customers?
  • Now put all your key words together with a natural conversational tone. 
Quite often the last statement you make (when you are practicing)
is really the powerful one you should lead with!

2. Practice it OUT LOUD! Several times!

3. Be ready with a plan to continue your discussion!
Plan to have a follow up conversation by email or phone call, extend an invitation to coffee or another Chamber event

And of course, ask for a business card and offer yours.

PUT IT INTO ACTION
